Take that with a grain of salt or not, but if you don't find them on the rating sites for "top VPNs of 2020, 2021, 2022 etc., I can tell you that it's not because they are not worth it.
Before the pandemic I would have to travel to about 9-12 countries per year, and Windscribe never let me down. Easy interface, quick and stable connection, and also no logs being kept.
I was lucky to get a lifetime a few years ago, and they have been getting better and better. Since that's not being offered anymore, this is a great deal imho.
Windscribe has worked great for me when I was in China and in Russia.

Express VPN from my experience is a lot quicker, but obviously at a cost... but for this price, for three years, it's not like I can't deal with losing ~1/3-1/2 bandwidth when I need it, ... just want to know if it is at least near Express VPN in defeating geolocating....

If anything, wondering about using Linux and proxies more. Maybe Proxifier or something like that on Windows too. Not sure about sandboxing applications... probably overkill and buggy anyway. Also, I find some programs just don't work as well anymore in Virtual Machines for me
It does seem like Windscribe is lesser known than some other VPNs though, but I guess bad actors will use it on major sites and get the VPNs blocked eventually anyway. It's a shame you can't really have one solution that just *works*
I've tried a couple other VPNs last month and those were even worse. Sometimes my first session worked fine, but I could never reconnect without a full uninstall/reinstall. It's probably some bizarre Win10 issue on my PC.
The amazing part is nobody else here seems to have any VPN problems. It's hard to justify paying anything for any VPN when I can't even get the free trial version to work. Unfortunately I'm not very smart about networking and can't afford hundreds or thousands of dollars to hire a local (typically snobby) Internet expert to fix it for me. So I will continue to pass on these VPN "deals" until I can find a VPN that works or solve my Win10 issue.
Whenever my VPN is deactivated, my Internet connection is rock solid. The help is so minimal, and I couldn't even find a good description on Windscribe or searching on duck* what allow local LAN traffic actually means. I guess with VPNs you're either a trained or self-taught networking expert or SOOL.
Yeah, it's been a few years, but in my experience, having tried the "trial" and purchased the product, the trial version sucks and was a mere shadow of the full product.
