Take that with a grain of salt or not, but if you don't find them on the rating sites for "top VPNs of 2020, 2021, 2022 etc., I can tell you that it's not because they are not worth it.
Before the pandemic I would have to travel to about 9-12 countries per year, and Windscribe never let me down. Easy interface, quick and stable connection, and also no logs being kept.
I was lucky to get a lifetime a few years ago, and they have been getting better and better. Since that's not being offered anymore, this is a great deal imho.
Windscribe has worked great for me when I was in China and in Russia.

if not, then why not use the 10gig/month on the free subscription?

The slower speed with the free service could be a result of connecting to a server further away.

It also helps protect your browsing history from being recorded by your ISP or mobile phone operator, so you don't have to feel so embarrassed about ordering a whole case of rosé during corona.
Can be extra security when on wifi, in cases where some websites aren't setup to correctly encrypt your web traffic, or when using airport wifi.
So lots of good uses, I don't leave home without VPN. And in case you didn't notice i'm very passionate about Windscribe.

If I could pay someone local $50-$100 to solve my VPN problem, I would do it, but most networking experts want $50-$100 per hour and it could take many many hours. They're not quite as bad as plumbers who you have to pay $100-$200 just for them to show up.
