Must first add offer to Card and then use same Card to redeem. Only U.S.-issued American Express® Cards are eligible. American Express Prepaid Cards, Corporate Cards and American Express Cards issued outside the United States are not eligible. Limit 1 enrolled Card per Card Member across all American Express offer channels. Your enrollment of an eligible American Express Card for this offer extends only to that Card. Offer valid only on US website or at Fool.com/amex. Valid only on purchases made in US dollars. Offer is non-transferable. Limit of 1 statement credit per Card Member. The enrolled Card account must not be cancelled or past due to receive statement credit. Any benefit earned from this offer is in addition to the rewards (i.e. Membership Rewards or cash back) earned as part of your existing Card benefits, but your ability to earn spend-based rewards for the purchase will be based on the amount after any statement credit or other discount is applied. Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 5/8/2021, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. The Motley Fool Terms and Conditions currently provide that unless you notify The Motley Fool that you want to cancel, or that you do not want to auto renew, your subscription or membership fee will automatically renew for another subscription period (subject to applicable law) of equal length (for example, monthly, or annually). This means that The Motley Fool will collect the then-applicable membership or subscription fee and any taxes by charging a credit card The Motley Fool has on record for you without notifying you, unless notification is required by applicable law. Note that American Express may not receive information about your qualifying purchase from merchant until all items from your qualifying purchase have been provided/shipped by merchant. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase is returned/cancelled. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it. By adding an offer to a Card, you agree that American Express may send you communications about the offer. Yep. Got it the next day after canceling.
First I need to confirm that I have been removed from auto renewal. That's in process. Then I will send them a request for adjustment. I note that they sent no receipt and I didn't keep any screen caps but I know I followed the process very carefully starting from the link in the AMEX offer itself specifically to ensure I didn't buy something that I did not intend to buy.
Finally, I will call AMEX about the credit if necessary. I'm not satisfied with the explanation about the 90 days it could take for a credit. It's never taken anywhere near that long in the past.
Agreed. Ever since they first started giving out offers, they have always given the credit way before the stated time frame that they claimed it would come in. Now, because they have done that, I like you expect them immediately and if I don't get them I suspect something is wrong. Not sure why they do it that way, but they kind of shot themselves in the foot through their own actions now.
Ultimately, this is my fault. This website has been around for years and has always come across to me as something of a scam. My instincts told me don't bother but I bit based on what is at its base level simply greed on my part - something for nothing.
However, AMEX made the offer. The vendor appears to be overcharging people, may be getting elusive on the auto renewal and AMEX are deviating from past practice on the promotional credit.
I am going to try the CS E-mail address one more time to get auto-renewal disabled. If they don't and if AMEX will not assist, I will simply close my AMEX account (getting a new card issued with a different number doesn't necessarily cancel auto-renewals). Assuming that is successful,I will request a credit for the overcharge and if the vendor won't do that, I will go again to AMEX and attempt a chargeback for the entire thing.
AMEX have always set themselves apart in customer service, so we will see how they do on this test.
Same here. Have you tried contacting AMEX? I feel like I'd get a canned wait response
Edit: contacted them and exactly what I said above happened

They are not clear about whether cancelation results in a refund. I assume that that is deliberate. There seems to be a 30 day policy that applies and the T&C from AMEX do not appear to contradict or modify that, but the information only refers to refunds that "may apply."
I am willing to keep working with the website (ignoring the E-mail spam) to find value in it, but this deal has become an ordeal just getting it off the ground.
Upon further examining the T&C, the credit could conceivably not be applied until August, dependent upon the vendor reporting the transaction to AMEX, which I assume they did because I have an E-mail confirmation from AMEX that I took advantage of the offer.

In my case I just sent in an email asking them to turn off auto-renewal and it took them about a week or two to get back to me, confirming it has been turned off. So give it a little time.
And worst case just tell Amex to block that merchant from further charges?
I'd be more concerned with the overcharge ... weird how some here have been getting $149 charges instead of $99.

Regarding the response time, I tried sending an E-mail once and they got back to me right away, telling me they didn't have my E-mail address on file. It took me a second to figure that one out. I use protonmail and they offer an alternate domain of @pm.me for E-mail addresses which is very convenient when, for example, you provide your E-mail address over the phone and such. Well, my E-mail request to them used the full domain, @protonmail.com, so that's why they didn't find a match. That never even occurred to me. But I found out that I can send E-mails under the abbreviated domain as well - it's just that that's not the default selection. That will probably save me some pain in the future so I definitely count that as a gain in this little adventure.
It took them only a couple hours to get back to me on that. When I re-sent the request with the correct E-mail address though, that was a couple days ago and still no response. Regardless, I note on the website that you can cancel auto-renewal pretty much any time but they show a popup that is very vague and suggests that you are canceling your entire subscription as well and may or may not get a refund.
All that said, all I really need to focus on is the overcharge and I have requested that from them. Having gained some information and insight from posts like yours (thank you), I'm optimistic that I didn't step into as big a mess as I had thought and am confident that they will refund the overcharge.

It came together with my peacock credit that I placed on 1/28 so I'm guessing their system on a whole is just being slow right now.
