I use Linux, so it's something I keep in mind. You probably don't, so it won't matter to you. I have a Corsair H80i v2 water cooler, and would love yours instead. In fact, I'm shopping for one right now.
But back on topic, if space is a premium, that is the one reason why you would throw that cooler aside. Otherwise, you already have the best there is.

This particular one uses a 3-pin connector.
It even has the option to control the LED with a controller OR via the OS.
I'm not sure which brand you have, but that is a very odd design you are describing.

I had an older cooler similar to the D15 and it was a huge pain to work around and made me nervous to move my computer. Worked really well though. Went to a watercooler and had much more room. It lasted about 7 years before I replaced it.
