Can't upgrade ram 😔

Don't understand why anyone is producing laptops with soldered 8GB currently. It is the minimum amount of RAM in a current machine. Either don't solder or at least put 16GB in so a machine is good for a long time.

Not a bad deal....but I would be worried about being limited to 8gb forever....
Ryzen 7 would seem to be more applicable to a Power User.....who may need more ram.
If it was 8gb LDDR with a lower tier CPU at a lower cost.....for someone who is not a power user...may make more sense....
Agree with others that 16GB is better if you are more of a power user....

I usually spend ~$400-$500 on an off-lease Latitude 13" or 14" every 3 or 4 years. I've been looking at refurb and off-lease 5490/5491s and 7490s with 8th-gen i5 and 8gb/256gb. A touch more for this with a 2x faster CPU, 2x SSD, and thinner/lighter/smaller might stretch my 3-4 year cycle to 5 years, even with the limited RAM. I'm not a power user anymore, considering buying a little higher on the performance curve than I usually do and getting a little more life out of it. The size/weight/thickness are big selling points, especially compared to the chunky (but durable) 5490/5491 and even the more svelte (but still durable) 7490.

It's also impossible to fix. The hinge is held in place only by a thin (~3mm) line of epoxy bonded to the faceplate, which is just a thin piece of foil. Furthermore, you have hot exhaust blowing directly on the joint. Nowhere enough surface area to make your own solid joint. And even if you did, I doubt the faceplate would hold up for very long.

SOOOOO now I need to spend some money to buy a replacement. Wife mostly uses, and mostly for internet although some Word here and there. I am about to pull trigger on the Costco version of this Acer Swift 3 @ $550. I am also here on Slickdeals to check what better "deals" I can get. I want thin and light. Don't really care about 2 in 1 I guess. Want to spend lowest money possible and still get a decent machine. WANT USB-C CHARGING IF POSSIBLE or at least a normal barrel charger that doesn't have the stupid sense pin that stops working and charger is not recognized as "authentic" and so refuses to charge battery.
Where did you get these off-lease ones? Ebay or some other sites? Maybe also I look at ebay or Facebook marketplace for something like an XPS13 that has USB-C charging? This Acer seems good although screen apparentlly somewhat dim.

Vote with your wallet is the only way to tell them we don't like that.
