Can't recommend this purchase enough. Price is up from a few years back when I bought it, which is to be expected. If you are going to buy this, do yourself a favor and open a Costco credit card if you don't have one. You will get 2 extra years of warranty. 4 years of warranty, no extra cost, and it's through Costco.

I agree 100%.

We had a similar, but much worse experience with two of our whirlpool gold French Door refrigerators. I say refrigerators because we're on our 3rd one in less than 2 years. The first one was a disaster, the door ice maker auger motor went bad, then the evaporator fan motor iced over twice, and the water inlet valve stopped working. Whirlpool replaced the first one under a lemon law type of situation.

We only had the second refrigerator about 1 week before it started getting getting warm (48 degrees). My wife just about lost it, she'd spent hours and hours of time, holding for customer service over the previous year, and we'd lost 100's of dollars of food due to unsafe high temps in the fridge. Whirlpool customer service is pretty good, they immediately set up an appointment to exchange the 2nd fridge for a new one, with no questions asked.

We've had the current fridge for about a year now with no problems (knock on wood). As I said whirlpool customer service is very good, but I wish we never had to find that out.

Multiple different repairmen also reiterated the fact that we were lucky we didn't buy a Samsung or LG fridge (kind of ironic, as they were there to fix our "good" broken whirlpool), they said most of their service calls were for LG and Samsung refrigerators.

I expected much better quality from an $3,000 American made refrigerator from a well known manufacturer.

It really feels like there are no good brands anymore for most appliances, fridges included. Any research winds up showing mostly negative reviews, and sure, that's probably partly self selecting bias, but it's depressing. Are there any good ones out there?

We have this exact fridge. We love it for the value. Have had zero issues with it for the almost two years of owning it.

Is there any way that you can delay your delivery date? I don't have a move-in date yet and don't want it to deliver early.
I don't think Costco can delay delivery. I called and asked. I'm in the same boat. Don't need my fridge till May, when the new house is completed.

I have a serious question: I've never paid much more than $300 for a fridge. What does a fridge like this have to offer to make it over $1000 more expensive? More space, the French Door styling, but what else?

I see people talking about reliability, but even this thread has many people reporting issues. The 3 fridges I've owned have all lasted almost a decade, with my current one being at 4 or 5 years, and it was a floor model.

So much xenophobia in this thread.

The number one reason for appliance breakdown is not poor manufacturing, it's poor delivery. The same can be said for big screen TVs, furniture, etc.

If you stop reading now, know this: Your "thing" got dropped beyond tolerance at some point.

In the case of fridges, chest freezers, and self contained air conditioners, the unit may have also previously been tilted horizontally and you opted in for the "expert" installation (or put it in yourself ten seconds after unboxing it) and neither of you were aware of it before plugging it in.

Tilt detection mechanisms do exist and you should complain to the retailer so this finally becomes standard.

As far as ice makers go: It's very simple, your water supply sucks and/or you've probably installed the fridge on an overloaded circuit. In the first case, the water supply is supposed to feed in at a certain temperature. Too warm and you're taxing the compressor, too cold and you can definitely slow the line to where it freezes up and causes components to work harder. As for the overloaded circuit, it's fairly common knowledge that this overtaxes the relays as it causes them to kick on too frequently.

It's important to remember that compressors have existed for 100s of years. Nothing about the fridge has changed significantly.

Outside of that, we've seen the way stuff gets delivered change dramatically. And you can be sure most contracted delivery people don't care about your stuff, since it's under "warranty".
I'm not sure if thinking the quality of several foreign owned brands is subpar, qualifies as xenophobia. Especially when most probably own a TV, cell phone etc.. from the very same manufacturers they wouldn't buy a fridge from. Maybe it's because whirlpool has around 40yrs more experience in the refrigerator design area? Just a hunch.

I've researched, posted on boards and get the same comments back. Don't buy LG or Samsung. People will say Whirlpool but then the reliability has gone down so much. It sucks that we can spend thousands of dollars and still get something that has issues no matter what brand.

Sorry, but I don't know how spending "hours and hours of time on hold" still results in you thinking their customer service was good. Is that just what our expectations are now?

The small one isn't a freezer.

Good deal. Personally, I don't like the small drawer as many reviews state that it is not very useful.
If you have kids and a million kid snacks, it's useful.

Is it confirmed that the using the Costco card double the warranty to four years? I was thinking about getting the Allstate warranty for years 3-5. Any thoughts?

And by the way I have a Samsung fridge and it is just awful. It leaks, constantly ices up to the point where we have to shut it down and defrost it a few times a year, ice maker keeps crapping out. And it's been that way since one month after the warranty expired. I got lucky and Samsung agreed to have it serviced a month out of warranty, but the repair man tried a few things but said it's a design flaw and probably won't fix the problem. He was right.

I have this one and like it. The only thing I sometimes have an issue with is the ice maker, as it seems to shoot ice out in a chaotic way sometimes and sometimes it gets stuck and all of it comes out crushed and makes a huge mess.

Been looking at appliances, ended up going down a deep rabbit hole of unreliability. With all the research I've done it seems best to avoid external combo ice/water dispensers and get the most basic fridge you can. Everyone mentions to avoid lg/ samsung due to limited technicians.

I ended up Purchasing a Samsung (probably regret it) because of the water dispenser being inside the fridge and the ice maker being on the bottom other wise its a basic model with a good amount of space (28 cu ft). If the ice maker or water causes an issue ill just turn of the water supply and make cubes from trays. If the water dispenser is an issue ill just buy a filtered pitcher,
just need it to keep constant temps and ill be content. Purchased it through Costco with their cc and bought additional warranty on top for a total of 7 yrs.

If you're gonna keep it for long, get extended warranty up to 5 years, and then use the extra 2 from Costco citibank visa. You'll need it.

Picked up similar model from Lowe's about 3 years ago. We've been happy with the fridge.

Kinda solid deal especially because of covid 19 relayed shortages. Usually I get what's reliable, and it seems that every manufacturer isn't building their machines to last as long. The next thing you should think of is if you can get parts to get it fixed. I think this is where sole of the frustration lies - it used to be that if you had to wait for a part at worst it was a week. Now lead times are weeks to even months. Samsung and LG parts will be harder to come by, while the domestics will be easier to source.
For this reason I've been leaning on the domestics partially because if they break, I can find parts easier. I don't need to wait a month from an amazon seller to have it shipped to me.
