Can't recommend this purchase enough. Price is up from a few years back when I bought it, which is to be expected. If you are going to buy this, do yourself a favor and open a Costco credit card if you don't have one. You will get 2 extra years of warranty. 4 years of warranty, no extra cost, and it's through Costco.

We had a similar, but much worse experience with two of our whirlpool gold French Door refrigerators. I say refrigerators because we're on our 3rd one in less than 2 years. The first one was a disaster, the door ice maker auger motor went bad, then the evaporator fan motor iced over twice, and the water inlet valve stopped working. Whirlpool replaced the first one under a lemon law type of situation.

We only had the second refrigerator about 1 week before it started getting getting warm (48 degrees). My wife just about lost it, she'd spent hours and hours of time, holding for customer service over the previous year, and we'd lost 100's of dollars of food due to unsafe high temps in the fridge. Whirlpool customer service is pretty good, they immediately set up an appointment to exchange the 2nd fridge for a new one, with no questions asked.

We've had the current fridge for about a year now with no problems (knock on wood). As I said whirlpool customer service is very good, but I wish we never had to find that out.

Multiple different repairmen also reiterated the fact that we were lucky we didn't buy a Samsung or LG fridge (kind of ironic, as they were there to fix our "good" broken whirlpool), they said most of their service calls were for LG and Samsung refrigerators.

I expected much better quality from an $3,000 American made refrigerator from a well known manufacturer.

It really feels like there are no good brands anymore for most appliances, fridges included. Any research winds up showing mostly negative reviews, and sure, that's probably partly self selecting bias, but it's depressing. Are there any good ones out there?

I was doing a massive remodel and as they go, dates to finish kept getting delayed. Three Costco delivery company in my area told me they would hold it up to a month. Again, ymmv due to whomever is your delivery company

These aren't your grandparents' appliances anymore. Seems like all appliances are built mostly for looks now. People move more now and end up replacing their appliances more often today anyway so the manufacturers make them to last around 10 years or so.

I've had all Whirlpool appliances for 13+ years, not one problem. Heard horror stories on Samsung appliances though.

We bought two refrigerators from Costco in the last two years (large family). Both French doors. Bottom Freezer drawer. Stainless steel. One was for the kitchen, one was for the mudroom. One was a $3000+ Samsung with window door (replaced a Whirlpool Gold that lasted 12 years). One was a $1000 Samsung (this past summer). Both have ice makers (but the $3000 has an ice dispenser on the door whereas the $1000 you have to open up the freezer drawer). Point is, the $1000 Samsung works just as good as the $3000 one. The $3000 model was "fancier" (in my mind more "gimmicky") and that's what the wife wanted for the kitchen, but if you don't need "fancy", pick out a fridge for under $1500. The $1000 model was not online. If you go to Costco, you will find a small selection of refrigerators that are not listed online and that is where you might get a slightly better deal (doesn't have to be Samsung - I'm sure Whirlpool is fine).

Or directly from whirlpool. I had repairs north of 400 already. Ice maker and water pump.

I used to repair appliances for a period of time. We'd go out and repair all the major brands of appliances, under warranty and out of warranty. From my experience, Whirlpool brand appliances were the ones we had to fix the least, and when we did, they were some of the easiest and replacement parts were relatively cheap compared to the competition. I always recommend Whirlpool and that's all I have in my house. In my opinion, they are like the Toyotas of appliances: mostly reliable, cheap and easy to service.

On the flip side, the Korean brands (Samsung, LG) were the ones we got calls for the most and they were generally a pain in the rear to service. They constantly have recall programs going on that we were called out for. They try to over-engineer their appliances and their "innovations" end up failing, resulting in a costly repair. Many customers out of warranty would just opt for purchasing a new appliance from another brand because repairs were so frequent and expensive. Also both company's customer service and technician service hotlines was terrible, like they put people on the phone with no formal training.

I agree with you. Our house is only 10 years old and wired correctly - I built it. But we have (increasingly) frequent big storms here in the south, during which power can and does fluctuate wildly. I do have my Samsung fridge running through a Tripp-Lite LC1800 line stabilizer/conditioner, but that unit can only do so much for boost/trim needs. I suspect this board would have died years ago were it not for that device.

My point is that these newer technology appliances probably would work as designed for decades in an engineering lab, being fed perfectly clean 115 VAC, RO purified water at 72 degrees, and MERV 20 filtered air. In the "real world" of power spikes, global warming, dust, pets, kids, and (for some) suboptimal wiring these advanced technology appliances are simply more prone to failure.

There's no way that I saved as much energy or $$ with this "high efficiency" Samsung inverter fridge so as to negate the cost and emissions (and 4 letter words) of its repair parts and labor needs.

Costco's warranty extends the manufacturer's warranty. It doubles it. You would have to read the T&Cs of All-state's warranty. I would assume their warranty's are from date of purchase. Therefore, you're paying whatever amount of money for the years that Costco doesn't cover. Again, the answers will be in All-state's terms and conditions.

Yes. According to this link, manufacturers warranty covers years one and two, Allstate covers years 3-5, and Citi extended warranty covers years 6-7.

Wirlpool fridges are no longer considered reliable.
Check consumer reports.
I had a compressor leak in about 2 years...just outside the warranty!
Had a second fridge (also a whirlpool) door seal break ...just outside warranty again!
they tech said these are becoming very common with whirlpools...quality is going down the tubes!
Same thing with my whirlpool microwave....sometimes it starts by itself as soon as i close the door.
