Can't recommend this purchase enough. Price is up from a few years back when I bought it, which is to be expected. If you are going to buy this, do yourself a favor and open a Costco credit card if you don't have one. You will get 2 extra years of warranty. 4 years of warranty, no extra cost, and it's through Costco.

I agree 100%.

We had a similar, but much worse experience with two of our whirlpool gold French Door refrigerators. I say refrigerators because we're on our 3rd one in less than 2 years. The first one was a disaster, the door ice maker auger motor went bad, then the evaporator fan motor iced over twice, and the water inlet valve stopped working. Whirlpool replaced the first one under a lemon law type of situation.

We only had the second refrigerator about 1 week before it started getting getting warm (48 degrees). My wife just about lost it, she'd spent hours and hours of time, holding for customer service over the previous year, and we'd lost 100's of dollars of food due to unsafe high temps in the fridge. Whirlpool customer service is pretty good, they immediately set up an appointment to exchange the 2nd fridge for a new one, with no questions asked.

We've had the current fridge for about a year now with no problems (knock on wood). As I said whirlpool customer service is very good, but I wish we never had to find that out.

Multiple different repairmen also reiterated the fact that we were lucky we didn't buy a Samsung or LG fridge (kind of ironic, as they were there to fix our "good" broken whirlpool), they said most of their service calls were for LG and Samsung refrigerators.

I expected much better quality from an $3,000 American made refrigerator from a well known manufacturer.

It really feels like there are no good brands anymore for most appliances, fridges included. Any research winds up showing mostly negative reviews, and sure, that's probably partly self selecting bias, but it's depressing. Are there any good ones out there?

I've had this over 2 years, and I like it and would recommend it. We even took it with us when we moved cross country and it survived without any issues. Only problem to report is there are occasional cold spots in the fridge area that freeze food. It doesn't happen all the time, but once every other month a head of lettuce or quart of milk would end up nearly frozen. We just keep fruit and vegetables in the middle drawer to avoid this. Also the rubber door seal has torn in a few places from heavy use from a big family.
Same exact experience with the frozen spots, mostly the top left

We ordered 4 appliances from Costco.com and it has been the worst experience I've ever had. Costco.com and Costco warehouses are miles apart on service.
Can you share on your experience on costco.com?

I too, have had a bad experience with costco.com. I had ordered a gym equipment from the website and ended up being defective and needed to be returned. It was a four week nightmare trying to return the equipment. Costco kept on sending UPS or FedEx to pick up the large equipment. They kept on insisting they are sending freight shipping pick up, but they kept on sending the wrong guys. After four weeks and many hours on the phone, the correct people came and picked up the large gym equipment. I would never buy anything from costco.com again that involves freight shipping or pick up

I had a similar nightmare with LG. Multiple breakdowns and service calls. We figured that we tossed about $230.00 worth of food. A close friend had a very bad experiance with an LG TV. I used to think LG was a great company, not so much now.

My Samsung broke down and the technician told me Samsung and LG make up 90% of his business. He recommended electrolux, GE and Whirlpool. Keep away from the Korean brands.
I was talking to my buddy last night who owns his own appliance repair business. Told me the bulk of his business is repairing Samsung and LG appliances. When it came to fridges he said ice makers breaking down as well as compressors going out are the most common issues. LG was so bad in recent years that they now do 10 years parts and labor on their fridges.

Labour day deals are best for refrigerators... but whirlpool may not be in that list... I bought one from Costco 3 months ago going ok. Had to call service atleast 2 times, Door bin broken, freezer door was Making noise... but nothing major, Since French doors the left door must closed first and then the right door otherwise the large bar gets broken easily (service rep came home told me). There's no alarm for door open in my model, the doors doesn't close fully when the gallon milk is half or below capacity. Internal water filter is an awesome idea and works great. Since winter rarely were used so.

Costco shipping, installed clean, well experienced, cleaned up all boxes and covers, even ran the filter for almost 2 gallons and poured in Sink. Asked me to do one more time before I start using the filter water.

Not sure many are having bad experiences with shipping, but my refrigerator, washer and dryer then a couch then a dining table all by costco (in fact the same set of people came) and they are really great. Even though they came almost 6 times every time I did tip them.

I've had the predecessor to this fridge for 10 years now. Its been very solid. I've had issues twice. Once was with a draining issue that caused the water to backflow into the freezer. The other issue was with the ice maker.

These are normal maintenance, wear, and tear items. I would recommend this fridge to anyone.

Actually LG is rated the most reliable...whirlpool is in the middle and Samsung is at the bottom
True-at least for LG French doors, which I bought three years ago based on Consumer Reports.
Counter depth, black stainless, NO water (good!) and internal ice maker which I never activated (KISS)
Nabbed for half price on costco.com-took forever to show up with very little in the way of communication, but knock on wood, has been flawless.

We have a 16.5 year old Kenmore side/side door configuration. The only problem I had was the icemaker gave out once. I bought a replacement on ebay and replaced it myself. One minor proble is part of a drawer guide (plastic) broke off, but that was my wife's doing; she is hard on everything. I do not like the layout and my wife would love to get something like, but I just think I can justify this. We also have a 16.5 y.o. Kenmore 3/4 sized one in the basement; basic without icemaker and had zero problems with it.

I bought this fridge last year from Costco for a bit less than this sale, we like the fridge but it has issues with freezing sometimes. Not sure what is causing it, we have lowered the temp a degree or two past the recommended 38 but stuff still gets frozen sometimes.
Mine does this too, I raised it to 40F and it still freezes everything near the ice box area. I have to move everything that I don't want frozen to the right side. I found that it also freezes some produce in the middle pullout drawer as well..

We have this exact fridge. We love it for the value. Have had zero issues with it for the almost two years of owning it.
Have you had issues with the fridge freezing stuff that near the ice box area?

Absolutely hated this fridge. I bought from Costco and exchanged it 3 times before finally returning it for a different brand. The first and third fridges were badly dented and the water filter spout leaked into the fridge. The 2nd fridge water dispenser didn't work at all.

I recommend seriously reading the negative reviews on this fridge. The absolute worst experience purchasing. Never again buying a whirlpool.

I had really bad experience with whirlpool brand. The freezer section kept on icing over and i learned that it was a common known issue that they didn't want to address. After that I stopped buying whirlpool products. Kind of sucks how they don't build them like they used to
