Normally for freezers, fridges and things that have refrigerant can be layed down on their side, but require 24-48 hours for the refrigerant to settle before you can plug them in.

Look up the freezer dimensions, add buffer for packaging, measure your trunk space.

Why even ask a question like this? No one knows which SUV you have, how much clutter you have in it, and which of the 3 freezer sizes you want.

would you mind if I ask, what kind of insulated door you use to keep the temperature below 55f in south texas?

I would think - Garages will easily reach 80F most summer days especially in Texas.
You want to keep it at or above 55 ambient, not below. No ones house is sitting below 55 ambient. As for how, I insulated my door using double radiant barriers with air pockets in between them. I used liquid nails to adhere it to the door after roughing it up with sand paper. My garage stays much cooler in summer and much warmer in winter than outside temps. Looks something like this when done. Cheap to do and works very well. Both garages i have done like this worked good.

Then you don't have this one. Or you're unable to differentiate between plastic and metal. Every panel on this is made of plastic. You know, the panels that encase the freezer? Obviously there are metal parts on it. But the vast majority including every panel on the exterior is plastic. If it ignites it's going to very very quickly spread all over the unit and drip flaming plastic onto your floor setting your house ablaze.

What do I know though? I'm just a guy that had my house burn down due to a 5cu ft insignia freezer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If this is all plastic why in the customer pictures are there dents on the panels? Plastic doesn't dent it cracks. So I think you are wrong. Maybe you had a different model with plastic panels. This appears to be metal.

per your source:
Following our campaign against fire-risk freezers, new British safety standards designed to make these appliances safer were introduced on 11 July 2019. Freezers with flammable plastic backs do not meet this new standard, so manufacturers are effectively banned from making them. While this is a positive, if overdue, development, it remains legal for retailers to sell fire-risk models that have already been made

JULY 2019. these are newer, and made of metal.

I bought mine in November 2019, and it is metal.

BRITISH SAFETY STANDARDS.

If you think the US has followed suit you're sadly mistaken.

I'm glad everyone made out safe. I read the article and it said the dog alerted everyone. Did your smoke alarm not work?

I went to my local Best Buy and picked up the last 7 cubic foot one they had. Got it all the way to my basement and of course it was damaged on a bottom corner. The box didn't look bad on the outside. Just an FYI for those that are picking it up at the store, you may want to check for damage first.

These aren't bad. I bought two a couple years ago on a BF sale for $100/ea. I guess they added a shovel and a light from what I read. I like the 5cu because it's easy to drag around, and I put these in my basement, surge protected. I think they will be good for the next plandemic, so I can stock up on stuff from the local farm instead of going to the grocery store and having idiots yelling at me about a mask.
If you have people yelling at you for not wearing a mask, then they ere not the idiots.

Anyone know how heavy the whole thing is with the packaging, I was thinking hauling it home using a hand dolly.

Specs have weights listed in them on the BB site, just expand the specifications to full view. 57.3lbs for 3.5 model for example. Packing materials were 1 layer of thin cardboard and 1" of styrofoam on top/bottom so maby 1-2lbs extra total. Very easy to lift when i picked up my 2 5cf models today.

I have the same model. Box says 2hrs upright if its been laid on its side.
Two hours seems extremely suspect, but again, not every manufacturer is using the same refrigerant.

I would err on the side of caution and let it sit longer, especially since trying to get anyone to honor a warranty for these things is next to impossible.

It's at the point where most third party companies would charge more than it'd cost to buy a new one (also, the extra appliance fee for sending it to the landfill).

Costco has midea 7.0 cuft. for $160 ... In store only... Picked it up on Saturday. Not sure if this pricing is local or not... Here's a pic of price tag https://www.dropbox.com/s/4xoegl7wfw2c4eo/PXL_20210130_172230960.jpg?dl=1

It's been this price for weeks now, I bought the 3.5 and have bad no issues so far. Nothing fancy by any means but it runs good. Not rush heavy at all also, it fit upright just fine in my Chrysler Pacifica van
