R263s have been $199/ea in past sales, otherwise these all match the lowest prices I can recall. Over the course of a few sales I've picked up the R263s, RC263, and R162s to fill out a 5.1 system (with HSU sub). For the price I've been extremely happy.

Yes, the RC263 is worth the extra $50 and is a steal at $150. Make sure it fits as it's a big center.

Yes. Just finished a theater basement remodel. Came from a Jamo setup to the R263/RC263/R162s and the difference in sound is night and day.

They are aesthetically pleasing too. Here's my setup

I'm a noob so wondering what I would need for a 5.1 or 7.2 system

Got the rc263 center and the rc162 last time

Just picked up the sub

What else would I need other than the receiver?

For 5.1 or 7.2, go with the R152, if you have the room. They are a little big but I have them set up as a 7.1 and love them. I have the RC263 center and R162s for the front.

And did you buy 2 subs? If you want 7.2, you need two subs.

You are right about some of the speakers prices but I have never seen the RC252 center for $99. And the RC263 is a steal @$150 and for that price, one of the best centers speakers out there, I LOVE mine!!

So I would need a second set of bookshelf speakers?

And I just bought one sub. Guess that means I can only go with 5.1 Which is fine

Yes, for 7.1, you need two pair of speakers in the rear or one set on the sides, then the other set in the back. And yes, 5.1 will sound great. What amp do you have or which one are you looking at? I have an older amp, Yamaha RX-A3000 but it really kicks butt!! I have not had a reason to upgrade it yet.

Get the surrounds and tower fronts, and a second sub. You don't have to do 7.2 you can do 7.1 and just have one sub.

I've got the R263s from last summer, the RC263 from November... time to add the 162s for a true blue 5.1?

Any reason to assume the RC263 won't last a long time? At this price I'm tempted to buy a backup but that's probably a waste of money as I do think speakers last a long time if not treated poorly

I think speakers are generally an item of longevity, in many cases, anyway.

I wouldn't sweat a backup. Down the road, if it should crap out, you might be ready for a new flavor of speaker anyway.
