How would this thing be if just ordered stock with just the 1 cent add-ons? Not a gamer. Would use this for video editing. overkill or better options?

The website for this laptop seems messed up. The top part is for the Ryzen model, but the whole rest of the page is for the AERO, an Intel version? So I guess none of the pictures, etc., are for this Ryzen model?

The 20MB cache is a big improvement over previous generations.

Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on CPU/ Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut GPU or Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut on CPU/GPU are very good options.

Conductonaut yes, Kryonaut NO,

Almost every paste on the market will have better performance than the stock paste, but almost every paste on the market is designed for IHS use, NOT bare die on laptops.

What happens with kryonaut is it gets squeezed out and the performance drops within 2-3 months of use. The stock paste has poor performance upfront, but it's gummier and stays put for longer 2-3 years without degrading in performance.

Conductonaut is liquid metal, which doesn't have the pump out problem, but will stain the heatsink.

Hey, so, the hackintosher inside me says "wait, there's no Intel built in graphics? Does that mean the "switching" technique is finally gone? Does it ONLY drive Nvidia for the display? I mean, at 240hz, it makes sense -- Intel anything couldn't drive that."

Are you part of a mining pool? what mining app are you using for ETH?
The easiest way to do it is to dual boot hiveos, which will manage everything for you besides you setting up your own ethereum address, which you can do with Metamask if you want the most trivial setup. That should take a complete beginner about 30 minutes start to finish, I think. Hiveos is also completely free for up to 4 rigs and charges no pool fees, so it's the best option all around for a small setup.

If you're more technically inclined, I have one of my systems running Ubuntu instead of hiveos so I can also dual use it as a Plex media server and a couple other things as well, and the easiest solution there I hear is using nanopool and nanominer - which is also what you should use if you're on windows as the easiest solution.

What I ended up using on Ubuntu was ethminer, which normally works the best with no dev fees, and I joined the ethermine pool (1% fees) from there. This was more involved as ethminer's latest binary release from 2019 doesn't support CUDA 11.1, which is what the new rtx 3000 cards are on. However, a few months ago a pr was merged to master in the github repo that adds CUDA 11.1 support (a trivial thing, actually) - so all you have to do is build ethminer from source on the latest version of the master branch and it'll work flawlessly. Pretty easy on Linux, a little more involved on windows.

If you don't mind not using your machine for anything else while mining and dual booting, I'd recommend going with hiveos.

Just ordered the 3060 version!

Which debit card did you get 8% back on?

Somewhat agree with laptop mining, but I'm sure you can fiddle with the settings such that the heat isn't too overwhelming. It doesn't seem there is as much power going into the mobile cards? It'll at least be a neat project for me, but there are certainly risks associated with it.

Regarding desktop mining, I run a 3090 without issue 90% of the day and don't have any problems with it. I understand the fears, but I've done mining in the past with AMD/NVidia with cards I kept for years and no issue. The $8k in BTC/BCH earned from trading in LTC that was mined over 4-5 months years ago was worth the first foray into mining. IF ETH ever did jump in price to something crazy like $10k, a month and a half of mining would cover the laptop. If you just ran a miner while surfing the net or doing some other tasks that didn't require much from the card, there is some value there.
Nice on the 3060! Can't wait to hear how it is. And on the 8% debit card - it's the Crypto.com Obsidian card. It's a truly insane card with only one catch - you have to invest in 5,000,000 CRO, which is about $325,000, to get it now: https://crypto.com/en/cards.html

I got it when it was only a 1,000,000 CRO requirement and only about ~$85,000 at the time. It's a truly nuts card being a debit card and can earn a maximum of $24,000 cashback a year at the max topup spend of $25,000 a month. Being a debit card, literally almost anything counts for the cashback...including things like money orders at Walmart 🤷 ♂️.

So sadly not remotely worth it anymore, but at the time, it was a uniquely valuable card to get. Still not really justifiable on that alone - really, the 100,000 CRO / 5% card is the only one really worth getting (now sadly 500,000 CRO), and only then if you were investing millions on the Crypto.com earn service because the 5/8% cards give an extra 2% interest on crypto.com earn, which comes out to 20,000 on the 1 million max cap in Crypto.com with the 5% card and 40,000 on the 2 million max cap on the 8% card.

So the 8% card basically only makes sense if you could have gotten it for ~$85,000 and you max out the 8% every month for a total annual cashback of $24,000 + $40,000 extra interest on $2 million in crypto deposited in crypto.com earn - $64,000/year return, plus you don't really lose the CRO you invest and as long as CRO doesn't fall dramatically you still have all your principal and they give you 12% interest on all the CRO you stake for the card, so overall, not the worst proposition in the world.

The 5000 tier is the most worth it to start with imo. Only an upfront $335 investment that you can likely recoup later, and they pay for $13/mo of free Spotify, and give you 2% cashback on everything, meaning you get $156/yr in free Spotify back plus solid cashback on everything from a debit card (including, again, money orders and cashback when checking out at supermarkets/etc) - 50% annual return on your initial investment guaranteed. Pretty impossible to lose if you normally pay for a Spotify duo plan anyway. Start there, and see if you're interested enough for the higher tiers to make sense.

I use phoenixminer and mine with etherminer (on Windows OS). If you want help setting up, PM me and I'll try to help out. Took a little fiddling around, but no more than 30-40 minutes. Figuring out the right settings on Afterburner took a while too.
