On sale at Costco, passed by it this evening. non curved.

not the best specs, not comparable to any gaming monitor at all. all in all perfectly fine for standard business applications, but very good for 34" wide

For the current VA panels on the market, it's generally better to avoid ones that don't support at least HDR400. For whatever reason, all the monitors with VA panels that don't support HDR are incredibly undersaturated in SDR and it has nothing to do with the technology. This can't be completely calibrated out either. They seem to be intentionally gimped in firmware. Regardless of panel manufacturer, even if two monitors use an identical panel, ones that support HDR and ones that don't have vastly different color performance right now.

QHD != 4k

QHD stands for quad high definition, because it's 4 times the number of pixels of a high definition device. Typically QHD stands for 2560x1440 (3,686,400 pixels) versus HD which is usually considered 1280x720 (921,600 pixels, or 1/4 the total pixels of QHD). You can note that 720p (the second number in HD) isn't used much in TVs or desktop monitors and that 1080p (1920x1080) is also often just called HD (though it's also called full HD).

VA panels can be just as good for photo editing. Sometimes colors are actually better and you tend to get richer blacks. Depends on the monitor.

IPS does have better uniformity across viewing angles. So ultrawide VA panels could be worse in that respect, but not really an issue if you're sitting back a bit more or if the monitor is curved.

I want to get this, but I am on the fence. It's only a $20 discount from the regular price. How good a value is it that people are so excited about it?

Also, can a generic, no frills Intel laptop can drive the full resolution of this monitor via HDMI?

If you can afford to wait, it goes to $249 at times. I got one for $249 maybe six months ago.

Is this essentially 1.5 times a 27" monitor at 1440?
