Is this deal better than what you can get from T-mobile directly where you can get up to $800 credit with tradein?

Get one FREE.
Via 24 monthly bill credits when you trade in an eligible device.
If you cancel your line before receiving 24 bill credits, you may owe up to the full value of your device ($799.99 – Samsung Galaxy S21 5G 128GB); if canceling your account, you can contact us first to instead make discounted monthly balance payments. Tax on pre-credit price due at sale. Limited-time offer; subject to change. Qualifying credit, service, & trade-in (Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 FE, S10, S9, Note 20, Note10, Note9; Apple iPhone 11, X, XR, XS; Google Pixel 4A, 4; OnePlus 8 5G, 8T+, 7T Pro; LG V60, Velvet, Wing) required. $10 SIM card, and, in stores & on customer service calls, $20 assisted or upgrade support charge may be required. $799.99 via trade-in credit and bill credits; must be active and in good standing to receive credits; allow 2 bill cycles. Max 4/account. May not be combinable with some offers or discounts.
Some people would prefer not to be locked with T-Mobile for two years for bill credits. If you are planning to continue with T-M for another 2 years, direct purchase from T-M is good.

My thoughts on the s21 coming from the s9+

Like how small and light it is for the size of the screen but don't like that they made the screen thinner.
Like the flat vs rounded screen.
Get's very hot when casting but otherwise not hot at all. The s9+ used to get hot when making calls but got much better as time went on.
Waiting for the headphone dongle from Samsung as the Motorola one I had didn't work. Also got wired Samsung USBC headphones with my credit and if they work I'm fine.
The headphone jack is the most annoying thing to me, but it was that way with the s20 as well.
Operating system takes up 32 gb so I'm glad I went for the 256gb.
5G doesn't seem to make much difference. If 4g is fast the 5g is a bit faster but both are fast enough for just about anything. If 4g is slow than the 5g is slow as well. Depends on where I am.

All in all would still be happy with the s9+ if the battery lasted more than a couple of hours but glad they are doing an even trade in for the s21.

I need to stop into Costco later today and will confirm but the way I read this, only the $100 Shop Card requires a new line of service. The "qualified activation at wireless center required" under the trade-in information usually means that the phone needs to be opened and activated at Costco.
If this is correct, still seems like a good deal even without the Shop Card, especially if you have the SE 2020 since the trade in value is more than the original cost of the phone.
Any updates?

The $100 card is for AAL. Plus buyers need to factor in sales tax on $719.99 into the end price. At the end of the day, no one is scoring this for $170 from Costco.

And mods, this deal has been around for over 2 weeks now. The last thing we need is yet another redundant s21 thread.

Promo says it requires activation of new postpaid line of service and didn't mention add on new line on existing account.
Huh? what do you think new postpaid line of service means?

Random dumb question - Do you have to actually physically turn in your old phone for the rebate? I have tons of pictures and stuff I want to keep.

yes, that is what "trade-in" means. Costco gives you a shipping label to mail your old phone to complete the trade. Simply download your old data and photos off your phone first, factory reset it, and then mail it...all from the comforts of home.

Calling S21 as a downgrade is like saying laptops not have floppy disk drive, CD Rom and a 56K modem as a downgrade. Get over it. Those willing to buy disagree with this comment. Just leave it out already and stop 'warning' nonsense.

Good deal for S8 trade in.

Original poster was a noob that left out several details, like that it's a rebate and the 10% off, but still already posted and those details did get mentioned later on.

Does the phone has to be in good condition? Do they accept broken screen phone for full credit?

The S21 may have a better camera, faster display, SoC, and battery... but at the cost of:
  • Losing the headphone jack (they want you to buy their expensive Galaxy Buds)
  • Doesn't come with headphones anymore (they want you to buy their expensive Galaxy Buds)
  • Doesn't come with charger anymore (luckily most won't need one, but is still a con)
  • Losing expandable storage (SD slot)
  • Losing Samsung Pay MST (the only thing that set Samsung apart from competition is GONE -- allowed using mobile payments at kiosks that don't have NFC)
  • Glass to plastic (Not necessarily bad thing, but for some might be)

Of course some or all of these might not matter to many, but there is no doubt the S21 is a DOWNGRADE in many areas compared to all recent years in the Galaxy lineup.
Didn't realize that Samsung Pay MST was yanked....the convenience of it was really the only reason for me to get another Samsung.

If any of these features (yes, even the lack of a headphones jack) is somehow okay for me, no SD slot is certainly a BIG NO.

Hard pass.

Same here. MST was the main selling point of the Galaxy line for me. That, and the headphone jack and expandable storage. Mind blowing that Samsung would remove ALL THE ABOVE... the only features that really set them apart from competitors. You should also know they removed MST from Galaxy watches too (Starting with Watch 3)

So many times I'd go to a store and be told 'mobile payments don't work here', and like magic, Samsung MST came through.

The only good news is that NFC should only continue to take over more terminals, so each year MST should become less valuable anyway, but still. Lot of barbershops, mom & pop shops are using the crappy old kiosks.
