Can't you just flip it around and have the slot on the left side?
Look at the 1 star review. The material gets deteriorated and break off. Don't want this thing near my kids or near my food when it breaks.
Don't fill up the landfill people!
For anyone looking to buy something like this, I LOvE one from Costco by Sofia + Sam. It's a bit pricier (34.99) but top notch quality and fair price. There's a slide out mouse-pad area with phone stand. This can be used on either left or right side, and hides away when you don't want it.
My favorite recent purchase. I got the black model...
The rubber fell off the bottom of my silver Inspiron 7000 so the non-slip silicone bar on this lap desk has been a life-saver. have had this in my cart at $20 for a long time waiting for a deal. bought another at this price. phone slot is nice too. I highly recommend.

Then the hard spot is at the top which might interfere with your laptop sitting flat.
Edit: Got this for my wife in 2012 for $15 and it's still holding up great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003JZC7CW/ Would highly recommend a newer variant if one's out there.
How does it tilt as in one of the pictures? It seems to be just a flat piece? I do like the mouse tray extension assuming it's solid and won't wobble or bend when you have wrist and mouse on it otherwise it would be annoying.

I ended up getting the one in OP. I currently use a Fitdesk since May last year and been revising it to be more comfortable but it can be more comfortable for sure.

It's just a flat piece of very firm plastic with a high quality silicone anti-skid coating. The mouse pad isn't very large, but it works well with mobile mice. It's also pretty sturdy, I haven't ever noticed undue flex or anything that might cause issues with the mouse not tracking well. My only complaint (that I don't know how it could even be designed to fix) is if you're not sitting with the desk flat, the mouse will want to slide downhill. If they gave enough friction to stop that, it would suck as a mousing surface. There is a little bit of rubber stopper at the bottom of the mousepad, though, so it will keep it from falling off if the mouse's center of gravity is low enough.
