I thought it was a great deal until i found out that most of the parts are proprietary. Correct me if i'm wrong but even the GPU is their own custom GPU which means you can't just replace it with a full size 4070/5070 next time. There's also people complaining of thermal issues. That being said, ts a fantastic price @ $1199 for a 3070 but be aware of the limitations.
Considering the street value of even a used 3070 is north of $800 right now, this should sell out in all of about 6 seconds.
7 replacements? Your persistence is commendable.

big deal if it doesn't support zen 3 to be honest. the 8-core processor in here should last quite a few years, especially with games still mostly relying on a beefy GPU. i'd be worry about the upgrade path of the GPU.
I'm running on a 6 nearly 7 year old system. I used to care about this stuff more in my youth; now it just needs to work and I have to put out other fires rather than constantly tinkering with my PC.

Only upgrade I plan to do on this is the memory and a storage drive or two... because everything seems to want more damn memory.

When comparing this deal system with their other Ryzen edition R10s that has 5000 series CPUs and seem to share the same motherboard, so it's likely this is also upgradable to 5000 series CPU. https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/d...10-desktop

While I suspect the same mother board in same system edition will likely be on the same BIOS version (that supports 5000 series chips). To be 100% sure, need someone who has it to check if DELL updated their BIOS for this particular system, any chipset with BIOS AGESA version (1.0.8.0 or newer) supports the Ryzen 5000 series CPUs, .

i'm right there with you. used to be all about DIY and picking out parts but aint got the time for that plus the DIY market now is really really bad in terms of selection and cost.

Well, didn't feel like waiting tomorrow and risk missing out on the deal. Just did the chat like everyone said and got it for $1229. So only $30 for peace of mind. Even if you can buy the parts, I don't think you can get a pc at this price. $330 for the cpu, $650 for the 3070(after the increase in tariffs), $150 for the case and psu, $75 for the ram, $75 for a basic motherboard, $75 for the 512gb add, $30 WiFi card. Great deal

Okay, here's the Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition Setup and Specifications PDF

Now, unless they misprinted something, the Chipset is B550A
Says that on Page 13.

That PSU seems like it is inadequate for a 3070

I agree. In chat you can upgrade the PSU to 1000W, but it'll cost you. Essentially the cooling system and the PSU are bundled together, you'd have to pay $200 extra to get a 1000W PSU and watercooling (as opposed to $50 extra for keeping the 550W PSU and adding watercooling). So if you were going to get the watercooling anyway, that means you'd pay an extra $150 to upgrade to a 1000W PSU. You could save money buying your own PSU, but how much?

Oh, and tip for everyone: If you don't want an extra keyboard they'll try to stiff you with a cheapie for ~$6. Tell them you don't want to pay for a keyboard.

3070 tdp is 220watts. Plus whatever the cpu and rest get doesn't require more than 550watts. So the psu is adequate. I've been running an rtx 3090 with a 5950x cpu on 650watts for months now just fine

When this deal goes live, will liquid cooling be an addable option? or is this a chat-only type of thing?

Thanks for the video. Also it seems to confirm that the memory is a Dell-exclusive model and you probably can't match it with retail Kingston sticks. So if you buy 16GB now, to upgrade later you either have to go through dell or replace with all retail memory...

After much research, you are correct that the memory is Dell-exclusive model with unique XMP profile, therefore you cannot mix and match with other retail memory if you want to run both at 3200 MHz.

Also, even if you replace all with retail memory, the BIOS is very picky about which retail memory can run at 3200 MHz. Looks like it was done on purpose so that people would buy overpriced memory from Dell.

Our Aurora R10 BIOS is customized to work with our tested/validated Dell OEM memory sticks. [dell.com]

If you want to run 32GB at 3200 MHz, buy the Crucial Ballistix 3200 MHz DDR4 DRAM Desktop Gaming Memory Kit 32GB (16GBx2) CL16 BL2K16G32C16U4B [amazon.com] and set BIOS to OC1.

A few people [dell.com] have confirmed the above works at 3200 MHz.

Your forum links are coming out weird for some reason. Might want to correct the URL.

But thanks for the tip! That'll save me some time Smilie

Man that set was below $100 on Amazon in December last year.
