Got emailed this in my area now last night. 500$ for equipment held me back. Using the connectall sprint hotspot currently with a 10-15mb download speed. I really want this but will wait till summer. Self install in February? I think not

ouch. I've met a bunch of radio astronomers and it does appear to suck for them.

Suddenly today, T-Mo tells me I'm eligible and took my order for home internet.

As a practical matter, I don't see myself needing more than 25.
(streaming of TV, music)
My parents have 100+ with Comcast, don't use it for anything more than checking AOL mail.
You've Got Mail uses a lot of bandwidth

Does it even say that anymore?
I go to their house to clean up the spyware they install by clicking on sh_t.
Can't send them e-mail on their flip phones, so it's AOL.

I had AOL back in the early 90s.
Dialup BBS before that.

Speaking of which, anybody need a 56K PCMCIA modem?
2400 ISA card?
Anyone?

For rural area, i think starlink is a revolution since cable run at potato speed for $60-80/month internet only plan
Just how fast exactly is potato speed?

Good for RVs but technically they do not want you moving around with the service right now. I am sure that is going to be available before too long. And it does seem to work if you move it around, but its discouraged.
no cap ...gb by end of year and 1 ms response by end of year

Ooh I totally figured that, but we all know that people will try to use it for mobile purposes on RV's and ships. Should open up a lot of possibilities.

Currently the rules say you can't take it on the road... it's configured to only work within a certain area around your address... Reddit says mobile use is down the road. (No pun intended)
I am a bit fuzzy on the details. I have the impression that there is the "potential" to use it for that purpose at some point. It would be nice.

viasat and other traditional satellite internet providers don't compare though. you can't game because the latency is unheard of, most have data caps that are pathetic.
and they are about to go out of the gouging business ....YESS

For some people this is actually a good deal.

Cox has a monopoly in our area so they are the only option. We pay $150 a month for 500mbs down, and unlimited data due to data caps and my wife and I working from home and doing non stop webex and zoom meetings/streaming and gaming we eat thru our data fast.

This is an amazing alternative once they get the latency and stability down. We'd recoup the costs in a year and then save money.
