I think this is a poor deal. It only takes 100k points this year to earn a companion pass for the rest of this year and all of 2022. Sign up for 1 business and 1 personal Southwest card and you're golden.
How much flying are you actually going to do before 2/2022? I definitely want to do a companion pass offer, but not one that expires right when I'd want to start using it!
Eh, as someone who has played the Companion Pass game for a while, this is just sort of "meh". Traditionally it's been good for the remainder of the calendar year, plus the entire following year. So if you get it by, say, March of 2021, you'd have it through the end of 2022. The total spent on purchases was about the same ($3k on one, and $2k on the other maybe?).
For this to work, you have to spend $5k within 3 months (not that easy to do, at least for me), and then you have to wait for the next billing cycle before you get your Companion Pass, and then it's only good till February of next year. And you only get 30,000 points whereas previously you'd get 50k (or 40k and 60k) per card.
That being said, they currently raised the threshold for the Companion Pass to 125k miles, so you would have needed to open more than 2 cards (and pay the resulting annual fees). So I guess this is decent if you want a Companion Pass? Wouldn't have minded having this available a month ago when we had to replace our furnace and AC (yay, $8k on a credit card!), but otherwise it doesn't really seem like that big of a deal. $5k is a lot to drop in only 3 months.

Hmmm... we spend $5k in any given month but still have a current SW card. Can never remember the rules. Husband is primary on current card. Can I apply in my name or do I have to cancel and wait first? It's been well over the 24 months since we got our last bonus
The weird part is that I never got any response saying the documents were received or that the card was approved. It just showed up about 2 weeks later.
Luckily, I had all the documentation, so it was not a big deal to upload it, but I did not get the sense that Chase has loosened any requirements for their business cards.
What kind of documents do you use to fulfill the requirement?
I wonder if I can product change to this card from chase sapphire reserve and still get the bonus?
You can't product change from a sapphire to a southwest card. Sapphire reserve cards can only be changed to a sapphire preferred, freedom unlimited, or freedom flex.

1. You can't product change from a Southwest to a non-Southwest branded card
2. Even if you could do so, product changes are not eligible for sign up bonuses.
What you can do is open this card as a new account while keeping your existing Sapphire Reserve.

I got the companion pass in June 2020 and I haven't been able to use it once I usually fly a decent amount in a normal year for my small business.
Is there a way I can cancel my current card and get this deal? Or is there a grace period before I can open another one?
You have to wait 24 months from the date that you received the bonus on your most recent personal Southwest card before you can apply for another Southwest personal card. Even if you could open a card now for this deal, you are only getting an extra 2 months of companion pass out of it, which would be quite the waste.

Someone else pointed out you can't product change from (or to) the CSR to (or from) a branded card (United, Southwest, etc), but even if you could you wouldn't get the sign up bonus unless it had been 48 months since you last got the signup bonus on a Sapphire card.
Although I'm not certain about product changing from within co-branded cards and the limits on getting signup bonuses. Might be worth a call to Chase?
Not a huge deal to get up to $5000 spent any time. It took 10 minutes to do it. We just pay ahead our tithe for several months. I'm going to pay that either way. We cover their processing and are qualified. I plan on getting at least 3-4 free flights in by expiration. Then we qualify my wife on the next round.
They just had the 80,000 point offer which got you 88,000 points(It was 5k for 1st 50,000, then another 3k for 2nd 30,000) putting you only 12,000 points off of a companion pass good for all of 2021/2022 PLUS an extra 50,000 in points....that was the real deal.
Myself, my account just got an offer for flying 2 RT in February and get it free until June 31st, so this offer would only give me an extra 8 months. I fly 2-4x a week, so I might be able to earn it the regular way this year.

Keeping in mind that business cards for non business owners is not so easy to get any more with simply your SSN and lying about your Ebay sales.
Your scenario is one path to the CP if someone chooses to it, but that does not make this a "poor" deal for many who want a simpler path to the CP.
I got instantly approved last week. The last 3 times I went for a business card I had to call in for approval. I think it got easier.

That wasn't a targeted offer. My wife was able to get that deal w/ my referral link also giving me a 10k referral bonus.
