Believe it or not, Crane, in these animal/bug inspired models, are among Consumer Reports highest rated humidifiers... and for multiple years.

Good brand. I have two of these; one from 2009 and the other from 2010. Both are still in use.

But the ladybug has got to be one of the uglier options, but I guess that's subjective. I have the elephant and the dragon which I bought for $30 each. Not sure I would buy this design even for $10 off.

I have the elephant and it's kind of a pain in the ass to clean and dump the base which you have to unplug and carry or use a bucket. you are supposed to do it everyday. there's gotta be something that is less maintenance.
I rinsed the base about once a month before I installed an under-sink RO system in my kitchen. Since then I haven't had to clean it at all. Once a day seems excessive. You might benefit from using their filter; they recommend it when you have excessive minerals in your water:

Definitely hard to clean. I have the Cow and Elephant. Elephant much harder to clean because of the surface area of the nose.

Under the water tank, some nooks and crannies.
Lasted for a few years.

But $20 is good if you think of this more as a short term use... unless you clean it alot and well.

I had this in Hello Kitty and Cow. Both did not last more than 2 years.

Ultrasonic humidifiers make stuff like minerals in the water airborne and you inhale them, just an FYI for those that are thinking about getting one. Unless you use distilled or otherwise demineralized water, you (or your children and babies) will be breathing those particles into your lungs. I found this out the hard way after getting one to help my sinuses.. sinuses felt better then got much worse and I noticed there was perpetually white dust on the furniture in my bedroom. Google it and found out about the studies that have been done.

Demineralization cartridges are your friend. Or water softener.

I bought the original teardrop model by Crane 8 years ago and while it was hard to clean....it worked until it died a month ago. The transducer conked out and it would not produce the droplets though the fan worked. I paid $33 for it.

I wanted to replace it but wanted to wait for a deal...and this fits the bill.

Great brand. Even fixed one by changing the supply fan. Use every winter for past 8 years. Quiet and non bright light.
Where did you get the replacement fan? We have the cow.. lasted for years, but just started making the whining noise with a bad ball bearing.
