Just so people are aware. There was/is a scam going on where some apple cards were redeemed the moment they were activated in store and the buyer was SOL. I myself am still fighting to get 300$ worth of gift cards and getting bounced around between target, apple and Chase. Buyer beware
Warning: if you are going to buy (any) gift card instore, please take only a pristine looking card. Do not get any card that is less than perfect looking. If you do, it might have been compromised. Better yet, just buy it online.
Source: my own experience with target with the last promo during thanksgiving. Bought few apple gift cards in store. I didnt pay attention to the sticker part of the card. Several of the cards i bought had some small scrapes or imperfections in the sticker part. Thought they were just dirty due to being out in the open. That should have been a clue that they were already compromised. True enough, about 6 minutes after I activated the card on the Target self check out kiosk, they were drained. Mind you, i have not opened the card yet they were drained of its accounts.
Tried to get a refund because of this. Called Apple: they said, yep, were activated and drained by a fraud apple ID. Call target instead to get refund. I called target: they said call Apple instead because we already activated the card correctly. I think there were at least 3 more people from the previous deal thread who had the same experience.
The fine print isn't super clear to me. For the 5% redcard, it doesn't apply to the following:
"Target gift cards and prepaid cards, Game On, Gift of College and lottery gift cards"
Can someone confirm that target gift cards and prepaid cards are only for actual target branded gift cards, and not 3rd party GCs like Apple or Android.
Thx
This is going to end up costing 95.50 (for Red Card holders), which will include $100 Apple Card and $10 Target GC.
The 5% target red card discount will be applied to $90, in turn the Apple Card will cost $85.50. An additional $10 will be charged for the $10 Target Gift Card.
Furthermore, one loses the ability to use 5% discount on the target gift card. In effect the true cost of Apple $100 gift card will be $86 β 14% discount for Red Card holders.
Some observations from the last time Target ran the Apple GC promo:
- They were limiting purchases to 1 every few days. If you are looking to buy multiples, you might only be able to get 2 within the week.
- Redcard 5% didn't work for me at the time, so I used a Discover card for the quarterly promo. Currently Redcard 5% seems to apply when I add the GC to cart, but it might not apply during the promo period.
- There were a lot of reports that GCs bought in-stored were already redeemed. While you can get around the purchase limits by buying it in-store, there is a risk attached to it.

FYI, somehow, you cannot buy standalone applecare through apple, with an apple giftcard. I bought my wife an apple watch for Christmas, and a giftcard to purchase Apple Care. I couldn't buy the Apple Care with the giftcard online, it would be in-store only. Not sure why.
ugh, I still have $1400 in gift cards from the last deal..
I want too hard, too fast. Now Apple gets an interest free loan from me.
Any tips on how you were able to buy so many (multiple accounts, in-store, etc)? I tried via the Best Buy promo and only got 2 before having orders canceled. When the Target $20 promo came around, I only did the limit and didn't stretch my luck.
Trying to get 8 or 9 to stack with an educational discount MacBook Air. Any best practices would be appreciated. Thx.

It was unlimited with target over the holiday/black friday. 1 Account x 20 individual transactions online. I used the website. Usually with other things that are quantity limited at Target if you wait for 1 to ship and then order the next one it will go through.
DO NOT PURCHASE APPLE GIFTCARDS FROM TARGET people are getting scammed. I lost $600 from their Black Friday deal last year. The codes were redeemed within minutes of activation while I was still in the store. Just a word of warning

Bought 15 of these when they were offering a $20 gift card. Half were purchased online and half were instore. Only purchase those that are in pristine condition. With some ingenuity its pretty easy to get the number off the cards without opening them and return them to the rack.
