I know this is comparing an open box to brand new, but I'd rather spend $5 more and buy an open box - excellent condition G7 with the OLED screen and 1TB SSD @ Best Buy. Currently $1105

You had me till you mentioned OLED. I am not interested in screen burn in that is prevalent on OLED displays

When you make a statement like this you better be able to stand by it. OLED burn in is a known issue. Yet, modern Samsung video controllers are able to mitigate this issue with pixel shifting among other techniques.

Despite the smart controllers, burn in is possible on both laptops and TVs with OLED displays. Some user initiated techniques of controlling burn in on laptops is to decrease the display idle time to maybe 1 minute, use dark mode, and use a dark screen saver. Burn in chances increase with higher brightness and use of bright colored backgrounds.

Really, we should just find some kind of aggregate report because anecdotal information is terrible BUT I have had a Dell XPS 15 with OLED for 5 years and there is no burn in. It was my main computer for ~3 of those years and I was in grad school using it a lot. I also have had an LG tv with OLED for ~3 years, no burn in.

I dunno from what I've read and seen I just think that burn in isn't that big a deal.

They sure are holding on to these old machines at full price for some reason I think they have too many Crypto miners buying up the machines
