I know this is comparing an open box to brand new, but I'd rather spend $5 more and buy an open box - excellent condition G7 with the OLED screen and 1TB SSD @ Best Buy. Currently $1105

At current crypto prices it's easy to make money, but I'm not sure it would make sense most places to buy a laptop for the sole purpose of mining.

Pay $1100, mine for 180 days at $3/day profit, sell for $600 when the market crashes. That's just break even. But if you are wanting a new laptop anyway, and mine when you can, it adds some value.

Basically even without crypto, there'd be shortages of CPUs and GPUs now, and this just makes it worse.

Really, we should just find some kind of aggregate report because anecdotal information is terrible BUT I have had a Dell XPS 15 with OLED for 5 years and there is no burn in. It was my main computer for ~3 of those years and I was in grad school using it a lot. I also have had an LG tv with OLED for ~3 years, no burn in.

I dunno from what I've read and seen I just think that burn in isn't that big a deal.
Like I said, it depends on usage and the eyes of the beholder. In most cases the burn in may be unnoticeable to the untrained eyes, or lies in the corner of the screen to be evident.

Stupid and desperate ones do. Heat is the number one killer of laptops though and I would never do it.

Have to take into account reduced lifespan. A desktop chip is designed to run 24/7 and is a seperate module. A laptop chip is soldered into the mxm slot right into the mobo and that heat will hit every component.
Most of the time solder joints will go bad under high stress/temps, and laptops will start freezing up or give colorful glitch screens. I know how to solder and repair them though its very rare for the chip itself to be damaged. Maybe in a year or two there will be lots of SOLD NOT WORKING/FOR PARTS laptops on eBay that I can buy up and repair.

Laptop Mining Farms Are the Latest Craze, Here's the Math Behind the Madness [tomshardware.com].

In 6-12 months there are going to be tens of thousands of these laptops being sold as "refurbished" with overused, janky GPUs.

Chips can last forever as long you don't completely fry them.

It's the fans that die. But they are easy to replace.

I mine with laptops. Temps average 60 C between them. Very profitable...

I'm interested in getting a gaming laptop, but I can't decide. This laptop seems to have heat issues with the CPU. Should I get this and have to tinker with it? Or should I wait for the Legion 5 with the 3060?

Who cares about lifespan when Walmart is selling $89 3 year accidental damage plans for 2060 laptops?

Battery life is not going to be great on a 68whr batt with an Intel CPU and high refresh rate screen. I would encourage anyone seeking to use this as an "all day" notebook to look up a real world battery test.

When you make a statement like this you better be able to stand by it. OLED burn in is a known issue. Yet, modern Samsung video controllers are able to mitigate this issue with pixel shifting among other techniques.

Despite the smart controllers, burn in is possible on both laptops and TVs with OLED displays. Some user initiated techniques of controlling burn in on laptops is to decrease the display idle time to maybe 1 minute, use dark mode, and use a dark screen saver. Burn in chances increase with higher brightness and use of bright colored backgrounds.
Yeah I'm starting to think if you see major burn-in on newer OLED displays it was probably defective to start with since if anything entire display will just get dimmer over time due to the more complicated wearing algorithms they using now.

Still I wouldn't expect it to last as long as normal laptop display like my Macbook Pro 2013 runs fine and screen looks same as when I bought it!
Doubt you can say that about your OLED laptop if you do buy one!

Guess they just using their customers as test out long term lifetime LMAO since they go ahead and release OLED laptops anyways!

Good deal for the components, maybe, but research the lid hinge issues these have before buying. I bought one before Christmas and the hinge broke within a week with very light use. Dell has been iffy at best in handling these types of situations. Luckily, I was able to return it without involving Dell.
