Are the prices better in the store? Or better specials sometimes?
As an example, right now, Feb 5-18 -20% off, Feb19- Mar 4 - 30%, Mar 5-20 -40% but their list price is usually already 30% off the MSRP. I just wait until it's 40% or greater.

mini rant... a lot of people that wear arcteryx for the symbol. It's unfortunate that most pieces of gear won't see adequate time on the trail or the wall. it's what they're built for

But either way, this proton FL is a seriously good jacket. I own a lot of arcteryx and NF summit gear and the proton FL is my favorite all-around jacket. So much so I'd have picked up another if my size was in stock.

I'm kind of confused about what difference it makes if you use this walking down a trail or walking down the street?

Unless you're mountaineering or rock climbing then you're just walking like everyone else.

I guess the big difference is that hikers don't have the luxury of bailing if their jacket fails them and they have to rely on it for long periods of time, but at the end of the day we are purchasing the jackets for the same reasons, its lightweight, its warm, its comfortable, and it has a great warranty.

Those benefits don't diminish if you're walking on a sidewalk vs dirt path.

Fortunately I live close to an Arcteryx outlet but for comparison, I've purchased several Atom LT hooded jackets for $108 which made great x-mas or b-day presents.
Dude that's an amazing price

Wait so this is essentially a wind breaker? I was thinking it would be similar to my Patagonia nano puff jacket but seems like that's not the case at all
It's wind resistant not proof. But that's how it sheds it heat. When it was blowing 20-30mph in 50 hiking, it felt amazing (just right). Some wind would enter but not all, just enough to cool down a bit. Again going to emphasize this is built for activity.

I live near an arc'teryx often. There are usually about 180 bucks before tax with %30 off. usually comes out to a bit over 130 after the smoke clears.

This jacket is basically the casual version of the atom. Not as warm or heavy-duty and the inner lining isn't as technical as the atom, but it looks way nicer when you wear it.
Actually Arcteryx recommends this for climbing. The outer layer is supposed to be more durable.

If I'm in a snowstorm 10 miles from the nearest road, I want a jacket I'm confident will prevent snow from reaching my puffy while being breathable.

If I'm on a 200-mile loop and rain is on the forecast, I need a jacket I can trust will keep the water out while I hike.

If I'm at 10k ele. and it's going to be 15 degrees and windy that night, I need a jacket I trust to keep me warm

...

When your rely on your gear for survival, it's no longer just a dirt trail.
