I remember in another thread that someone suggested buying an extended warranty on all dehumidifiers. Anyone have experience with the Geek Squad protection plans?
I bought this during the last promotion - about a month or two ago. Paid using my chase credit card and with that, it came with automatic extended warranty through the credit card
I bought this the last time it was at this price. You can usually tell when this goes on sale because the 35 pint model will go on sale a few days earlier. ($129.00 for 35 pint model)
The unit can be loud and it doesn't come with a drain hose which aren't big deals for me. I just used an old washer hose I had laying around for a spare. You do have to keep the unit higher to take advantage of the draining with gravity. If you don't use a drain hose the bucket is a bit of a pain to put back in. You have to angle it and push it which can easily break some of he plastic.
Over all a good unit for $149 even at $199 is an ok deal.
I have a closet with a louvered door. It is located across from the blower (also In a closet with louvered door). Would this be in a decent place to dehumidify the whole house? There's no other place my wife would want this monster. Plus I have a drain in that room.
I have no air returns in my Florida house and the HVAC blower pulls air through the louvered closet door and sends it through attic ducts. My house runs at 60rh in the summer and 50rh in the winter. Trying to add something so my ac doesn't have to work so hard to get moisture out on damp days.

will this be enough for a basement of 1200 sqft or should I look to get a 70 pint one?
Do you know of any model at any cost that has a pump? I would like that so I can put this with my AC and lift it a foot into the condensate drain for that.
I have this model in a poolhouse that gets pretty humid and I set it on the fridge and dropped it into a saddle into the sink drain. Works pretty well.
It is rather loud and I have my home automation check humidity levels and room presence before it runs. It does remove humidity pretty quick though!
You could just use a small aquarium pump and use it with either a smart plug or a timer with an outlet to drain it every x amount of time. Did this at a wine room at work and worked great

If you have a Costco membership, they have a Danby model for $30 more with a built-in pump.

How did you get a warranty through Chase CC? Where do I find it? I have a Chase card as well. Thank you.
New homeowner here. What makes the pump so special?
It depends on where you can drain it. In my case, I didn't want to drain it into the floor. That meant I have to either elevate the dehumidifier or remember to dump the bucket frequently.
With a pump, it can drain the water in a utility sink or through the same drain line as your air conditioner.
