Why do you say that? I desperately need one and people were saying the 50 pint is a monster.

insignia = low end best buy brand
dehumidifiers = notorious for crapping out after 1-1.5 yrs and even the best brands get recalled (As was recently seen)

combo of the two wreaks of danger

I'm pretty sure all $150-$200 dehumidifiers share same internal design and probably made on the same Chinese factory from the same materials. Sadly even $1500-$2000 dehumidifiers often crap out soon after warranty!

Check with your local electric company about any rebates for dehumidifiers. Might save you $50 or so.

Agree, which is why most were recalled vs one brand name.

However, I don't think the insignia ones are part of that, but maybe they are?

Nice $25 in Virginia. Makes up for inflation, this unit had been selling for $150 in months past.

Do you own one to speak to it's failure? I own 2. Going on 3 years with constant on /off and it still works great in our basement. I actually bought another one for use upstairs in our guest suite. No issues here. The humidistat is a little more sensitive so it does kick on and off more frequently so I thought maybe that would cause it to fail sooner but it doesn't seem to be showing any signs of such

TlDR. If one of mine failed, I would buy another in a heartbeat.

https://www.energystar.gov/rebate-finder Enter your zip and check the rebates offered in your area for dehumidifiers.

it lists the rebate for my area but I don't know if this has all the rebates from all electric companies. You can certainly login to your electric companies website to be sure.
