One thing I noticed on the fine print was that the oil sold in packs do not qualify for the rebate.

Thanks for the warning.

Similarly, my son told me that the COVID vaccine has a microchip in it so the government will be able to track us and control our brains even more than they already do. Not going to do that one either. Whew.

Now have to buy 2 of the 5quarts to receive gift card. Not as slick as it once was.

It's not bad. Costco brand is going for this price, but you have to do a rebate here, and it's a Shell GC, which means it is only good at a Shell location and their gas tends to be about 5%-10% more expensive than elsewhere, so in reality, it's more like a $20 GC not a $22.

If you can get the Ultra Platinum for $22x2, then it's probably worth it.
Walmart has the non-ultra synth at $22/5qt. Amazon has it at the same price but you can get an additional 5% off with S&S, or $21/5qt. I seriously doubt most people need or can benefit from the ultra unless they're driving high performance sports cars, in which case saving a couple of bucks on oil is a false economy and if it's that important to you then maybe switch to a family car? For most people, for which the non-ultra is just fine, this is a deal, even if Shell is slightly more expensive where you live. Where I live, it's the same price as other top-tier gas stations, and sometimes a bit cheaper. Add the 15 cent savings I get with Fuel Rewards and TMT, and for many, and I bet many, this is a deal.

That said, does anyone have hard numbers that show that ultra is meaningfully better, and if so for what kinds of cars and under what kinds of conditions? If at all, I bet it's for Vettes, Porsches and the like, driven to their limits on a sustained basis. Which is maybe 1% of the population, if that, and even then mostly when raced.

On every FP deal.....there is a title and then underneath a price. The price listed for this deal states that its "Free after rebate". SD'ers are not thinking the oil is free..... they're not stupid.
I'm stupid.. or maybe I'm not a true SD'er Smilie

The title is misleading for people that glance at them and not read letter by letter thinking of the meanings. I guess you have to read this like Chinese characters, lol.

Anyways, what are people buying?
Can I get something like this 3pk at Walmart for $30 and claim this rebate?

I checked with Shell Gift card, they never expire. I actually had one from few years back which also has $22 on it.

I can't believe how many people are complaining that it's not basically free oil, when at $11 per high quality synth oil this is absolutely a deal.

2 x $22 - $22 = $11/5qt is not a deal, even with tax bringing it up a tad?!?
Lol, right?

Jugs that are normally $22-25 - are now $11 (50% off) and it's lukewarm.

The gift card is free, just as the title says.
Hmm I have never thought of a rebate as being free. Yes it is given to you. But only because you made a purchase. What is this bizarre logic?

The Terms and conditions say that you cannot buy packs. You can try and hope it gets approved. No promises.

Soo,

With amazon for 5-20 I am seeing $25 per 5-qt,

Spend $50+Tax on 10qts get $22, net price $28

This deal from costco is 20qts for $55 or 10qts for 30

https://www.costco.com/kirkland-s...90388.html

I'm not an oil snob and this deal is not worth the hassle

Hey if you want your engine to literally fall off halfway down the driveway then that's your choice.

LMAO

Seriously, most folks are probably best off getting the cheapest decent oil they can find, treating their cars well, and changing the oil and filter at proper intervals. For higher-end cars, though, or ones driven to their limit or under adverse conditions, it might make sense to spend a bit more for the high-end stuff, so they last longer and run better.

I've done extensive research on this for my own cars that I maintain. Most oil manufacturing is done by the same manufacturing companies. The quality of synthetics often has to do with their concentration of additives that are standardized across most of the industry, save for a couple of unique patents from Molly or Amsoil that have "special" additives.

Kirkland brand meets or exceeds all the industry standards that would make it decent. Most people should do as you suggested and focus mainly on sticking to proper intervals, but their choice of oil being Kirkland won't make their "engine fall off," which I'm guessing you mean to seize-up, leak, or generally malfunction.

When the Kirkland brand goes on sale, I usually get it when I'm out. It's a very reliable oil to use and I would consider paying $2 more not to hassle with the rebate-form stuff.

The irony is there are millions of barrels of unrefined oil stranded in tankers off the coasts because of the problems with Oil demand right now being so low. Paradoxically, gas prices are going up, there's just no making sense of this market.

YES the wording of the title is very misleading, this is not free only makes it about half price. Also multiple 5qt. packs do not qualify for the rebate. See terms & conditions.

Last year it was free after rebate, so OP is playing with the wording to intentionally mislead most. Kind of funny for OP to do that but I guess he/she has lots of time to play a joke on SDers or works for PENNZOIL to increase sales.

Last year one 5qt jug was free after a $22 rebate, so people got excited to get a similar type of deal. Especially if you think about it, crude oil prices were higher this time last year and at historically low prices now, and everyone drove their cars a lot less--->, less oil changes. Pennzoil probably has warehouses full of unsold oil, they should be giving this stuff away for free to keep their stock moving and helping society. Instead they get a guy to post a misleading post on SD to sell not one but 2 jugs of oil thinking it will be free.

On the offer page, https://www.pennzoil.com/en_us/pr...l-400.html , it doesn't explicitly state walmart.com under participating retailer. Sounds like this offer is only good for brick and mortar purchases??

Covid has definitely kicked off some interesting aspects for business/society. Gas prices going up are due to the cold snap and refineries shutting down though.
