I own both also and the reason you got so many thumbs down is because you're forgetting about what makes this Samsung so great.
120hz OLED screen with inky blacks.
It destroys the new iPad Air 2020 model screen. 60hz and annoying gray backlight bleed.
You have to go all the way up to an iPad pro to get a comparable screen.
Screens are important since you're staring at that thing 100% of the time.

I traded in S5E and used EDU discount.
The S7+, 512 came out to $389 before taxes. Used a CB site to get 10% on top of that.
I held off but the article from Phandroid explaining that you can use the S7 to extend your windows laptop screen pushed me over the edge.
When I travel, I have Surface X for work and Samsung tablet for personal entertainment. This gives me a dual screen setup.
the samsung screen extension is exactly that: it serve has a widi display. you laptop need to support widi to use this function.
so you probably want to check on your laptop first.
