If you are a "new" customer, you need to select a min. $60 monthly plan, but downgrade to $30 or other monthly plan once you receive the phone. Since this is a prepaid plan phone there is no commitment to any long term plan. You can cancel your monthly plan anytime. But 6 month service requirement is needed to unlock the phone.

Do NOT "copy and paste" your ported out account number and PIN. You need to enter it manually. Visual guide for the process to activate new Cricket phone accounts for anyone who is confused about the process:
RSIM15 Instructions
This is what worked for me:
I activated Cricket service, set up the phone under my Apple ID, and also updated to the latest iOS. All that with Cricket SIM in tray, as per usual. [Did try to power on the phone for the first time with my preferred carrier's SIM (T-mobile) just to test if the phone comes unlocked but no luck there. It's locked.
To work with your carrier of choice, try RSIM plus carrier's SIM in tray. If you get the pop-up menu, code the ICCID as per instructions. I did not get the menu and was unable to change the ICCID that way.
The workaround was to remove the carrier's SIM and inserted Cricket SIM but with RSIM still in the tray. Then go to "Settings" - "Cellular" - "SIM Applications" - "Edit ICCID" and enter the most recent ICCID number (you can find one here: https://geveystore.com/).
After coding is done, remove Cricket's SIM, insert your carrier's SIM (again, with RSIM still in the tray), and you should be able to register on the carrier's network. I think I needed an extra reboot or two and had to enter Apple ID / Password to proceed.
After the phone connects on your desired carrier, be sure to navigate to Settings - Cellular - Cellular Data Network to ensure the APN settings for your carrier are entered correctly. For T-Mobile, use info found here: https://www.t-mobile.com/support/...ple-iphone

I'm looking into this as well as we are on the old 5 lines for $100 on Cricket. I think we need to get a new number elsewhere, like maybe Ting for $10, port that number in for the porting number discount, then go through the steps above? I have an old unlocked cell phone around that I'd put into the "new" pre-paid account for the month before cancelling.
Yes. I recall reading that making any changes to 5 for $100 would mess up with your plan charges. So, better to open a new account and swap the phones and let the new account die. Don't risk your existing promo.
If you are already in Cricket over 6-months then new customer / port-in price may apply.
Have you had success with this? I haven't got a promo price on a phone with cricket in almost 3 years. I assume you have to call customer service (as opposed to in-store)?
Another perk is total wireless IMO has been a much better MVNO and offers better speeds with reliable Verizon service. Not sure what service provider some of the Tracfone's run on. Even though they are the same company I would imagine they have contracts with a couple carriers.

Looks like this phone isn't eligible for such promo for existing customers. Some Cricket promos have this explicitly called out.
I tried to go through the hoops to get one of these deals. After finally getting the form submitted, hours later was sent an order cancelled email. No reason given, customer service was confused why also and had no additional information, just to "try again". Once I googled the issue, I'm not alone. I took my money elsewhere, this level of incompetence early on in any phone company is indicative of issues down the road I'd rather not experience.

I have done this a few times and still have a few of the $60 plan SIMS just laying around. Is there a market for these SIM cards, perhaps on ebay that we could sell them?? Anyone have any experience with that? I have no use for them as I have the grandfathered 5 lines for $100/month plan as well.

You can try OfferUp or similar to try selling it locally. You may need to sell it at a discount and may not be able to recover the full cost. Also, check if they have any expiration.
Order one or two new phones with a new account with port-in numbers ( I have a couple of numbers from Visible, $5 AGC each, PM if needed). Just swap the new phones to your current plan. Just let the new account die.
How do i do this if my mom has atnt and i want to switch her over. Do i buy a number on ebay and how
Do i need to keep the line open if i just want to use it for wifi? is there some kind of back charge if i dont keep it on cell service for the first month?
