You don't need to buy it, once you redeem the game, it will be yours to keep forever.

That's the issue, can't redeem the game for free because I already have a PS+ license on it. But it would be better to have an owned license instead of requiring PS+ forever.

Don't try to do it from the site, do it from the system store on your PS4. The site is really only good for getting free PS5 games if you don't already have a PS5 now. You can look at my post on the announced free March PS+ games if you want a little more info and screenshot.

Has anyone confirmed if those of us who got this PS4 game free from PS+ back in 2018 are able to get it to "own" or are we blocked from being able to own due to having PS+?

My guess would be the latter as Sony likes to block people and make things difficult (such as wrecking their website). I guess it would make sense to get it in another family member's account who doesn't have PS+.

I wouldn't trust anyone confirming or denying it anyways, at least not until the deal goes live in another 25 minutes or so... but seeing as I've already confirmed that you can purchase games you got free from PS+ in a previous post and linked to that post in my last reply in this thread... I'd say there's a fair chance we can get it as long as you do it from the system store.
