Keep in mind there are two version of Woodtek bits, and the ones that received the good rating here are the more expensive version. The individually sold bits are higher quality, but the bit sets beginning with #122 are their economy line.
I picked up a 1617 router not long ago on sale and have been looking for an inexpensive bit set to get me started. I planned on upgrading the ones I used the most, but I'd like to keep a variety on hand for small jobs. With shipping, these are twice as expensive as the the sets on Amazon ($70 for the 24 piece 1/2" shank set). I understand Woodtek is Woodworker's house brand, but does anyone know where they're manufactured? Are they worth twice the price?
Super expensive if you are just a hobbyist woodworker, $153 for a 24 set? $30 bucks on Amazon to use the same type of bits for your occasional project. Plus, you will rarely use all the fancy bits aside from a dovetail or a straight trim bit and then you just buy a good bit for that purpose.
If you are just starting out I would get a 1/4" shank plunge router, 1/2" bits are way expensive and not really needed unless you are using your router al the time.
I also have a cordless Ryobi router and it worked great when I was trimming stuff or making window openings when I built my shed and on a ladder. Good enough doesn't have to be expensive.
I am fascinated by the possibilities with routers but it looks like you need a PhD or that kind of devotion / time to make full use of what they can do.
Looked at one item you said you needed, bought and I noticed "Imported."
Oops, I will rather take the China stuff than the one, say, from India
Disclaimer: I am no Chinese (No, I am not saying the way Nixon declared about himself in 1962 if anyone remembers that and get offended) and admire the way they are moving up / moved up in high tech & manufacturing. I am an Electrical and Computer Engg. prof. and all my lab / fun stuff now comes directly from China. No more of our Radio Shacks and what not
And don't get into the talk about stealing etc. In research and development, you take someone else's idea and build on it or re-engineering or reverse engineering and it becomes murkier to define when it is really bad. We have stolen (though we can say by the individuals desertion) of great brains from developing countries and benefitting from that.
Looked at a few router bits. All say imported and the price is same or higher than "China stuff on Amazon". Amazon has prime free shipping and returns on their stuff

I'd get the triton 3 1/4hp one. rack and pinion plunge is fantastic and accurate, has tons of power. That with something like a bosch colt or a small trim router would be all you'd ever need.

Nice, only problem is I don't have a router. It's the last tool I need to really complete my workshop and I've been holding out for a good deal. Anyone heard of any decent deals on routers lately? Any recommended brands? Thanks.
Looks like the same ultra cheap pine boxes and pot metal hinges that lots of the inexpensive sets on amazon come in. Is there any indication these are any higher quality? The amazon sets are generally serviceable for softwoods within their limitations, but they cost less than these.
Edit: just realized that the 1/4 inch set is 38.99 and not 59.99. I was looking at the half inch. the extra 10 bits seems worth it. do 6.99 more compared to HF.

If youre just collecting shelf ornaments, sure
With that said, I'm looking to get a 1/4" set for use with my mini-router for a few special tasks.
