I bought and installed 1000' of monoprice cat6 cable in my new home during framing. 6 months later I got a recall notice that the jackets on the cable were not fire rated even though they were marked UL/CL2 or whatever. They are telling me they will pay to have the cable replaced in the walls and have sent new cable, but the contractor they have offered said they can't do the job because the cable was stapled to the studs and they can't do drywall work. So monoprice told me to find someone else on my own to replace the cable and rip up my walls, and rip up a stone fireplace for one of the runs. It has been a nightmare.

Still not sure I will ever buy monoprice cable again for in wall application.
no wonder monoprice is in todays shape. i think they spent all their earnings in that year to pay for your house renovation.
So I get you're upset about the situation, but you're giving them crap for trying to make it right? I can't think of many companies that would even offer this level of service to make things proper again.

You gotta give them some credit since most modern companies would leave you high and dry and make you fight to make things right. They'd force your to pursue legal paths which are an absolute nightmare and take a long time to resolve.

I was about to post a similar warning.

I have not removed mine yet due to how much work it would be to remove and replace, but I will never buy anything from monoprice again.

I install this all the time I've used dozens of boxes, its hard to beat this quality cable, the RJ45, Cat6 Keystones are also good.
And that patch panels, wall mount brackets etc. Everything I buy at Monoprice I have been happy with its less of a crap shoot then amazon.

Same here. I get a few boxes of these for running in businesses. Having muitiple spools saves a lot of time running a group together, over running lines one by one.

Rarely have any issues with these.

I got the same recall for cat6 I bought and installed 2 years ago. Luckily I only installed about 300' or so out of 1000. They are sending me a new free box of 1000'. I do have some 50' runs but I didn't want to go through the whole ordeal and have them bring someone in to replace it.

Just wired up my house in Cat6a shielded, definitely a beefy cable and hard to find large enough RJ45 modular connectors for. Smaller residential home likely won't need close to 1000' even with lots of run. I ordered 2 spools of 500' to do dual runs for each room because fishing and running wire in an already built house is no fun. Make the labor worth it.
Now I just need to find out if someone will buy my surplus!

It really should go through a PVC pipe of some sort. If the pipe is sealed from moisture, you're in good shape; Slapped a 240' run between buildings into PVC using this Monoprice cabling, and it's worked well for 7 years.

My concern is if there were ever a fire in the house, would my insurance blame me for not having this cable replaced?

Oh no, come on, I'm sure the factory who cheated them (perhaps opened the shipping container and swapped to a cheaper cable overnight after their inspector left before it went out the next morning) is going to promptly pay the whole bill. "Wait I could've sworn they were in that warehouse just a few weeks ago and their phone lines are disconnected..." (What kind of shape are they in today though?)

That is a great question. I am not sure but you got me thinking lol. I might just change it myself once they send me the new cat6. I just hate being in the attic 😅 haha

So what happened? Did they at for all the repairs? Did u find someone to do the job? Just really curious what a horrible thing to happen to u. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise maybe something wasn't done correctly originally, maybe God has intervened.

Just for future reference, plenum rated cable is never cheap. You will probably end up spending the same amount, even after they rip up your walls- assuming the cable is 'free'.

So far we are still trying to find someone to do the work and get monoprice to approve their bid. It's a headache I just don't need.
