This is a solid Deal for a strong set.
The drills aren't XR, however the most important tool here is an XR ..... the XR Oscillating Multi-Tool.
Unless you're drilling a 100 anchor holes in concrete, or drilling through 18 solid inches of concrete, a brushless drill is not necessary.
For Home Use, these drills are a perfect fit.
And the XR Oscillating Multi-Tool is very useful, great for cutting stubborn bolt heads, scraping off adhesive, cutting clean lines in drywall ...... very useful, and great that it's brushless π
And having smaller batteries is easier on the arms, and having 2 batteries means 1 on the tool, 1 on charger.
The difference goes beyond brushless.
First off this set is $249, and it falls into "DeWalt Limbo".
If you want these just to have a yellow tool laying around for occasional use, then they will suit your needs. However, this set is overpriced for a set of tools that will rarely be used. Plus, with the 2ah batts, dont expect much more than a but of working here and there throughout the year. And for $200, better tools to fit that role exist... even in the DeWalt lineup...
The 20v MAX compared to the 12v, and (in some cases) the Atomic, rarely justifies it's place in the dewalt lineup, for people spending, say $200.
So as a person who made the mistakes of starting off with a "bait set" of tools, either go XR, or go 12v if DeWalt. Or go with another brand.
If it were a tool set with more specific, less used tools being the 20v MAX, then it could warrant the difference between choices. But a drill/driver will be used 3 to 1 over the oscillating tool (and I LOVE oscillating tools. It's a godsend for freehand mortis and tenons since I only have 1 arm) but a drill is the most used tool (and a driver is a must if you've never used one, and even moresoif you have.)
All in all, if it had better batts, it might be worth it. But with the deals on tools over the past year, this falls into the "hmmph" category. Home depot had better deals a month ago for $200. So it's just not that good a deal ... leftovers at best.
*edit- I apologize for the "I'm a meanie-head" novella.

I own all 3 of these, and like many people have said - they're fine for home use.
Most pros I know are moving to 60v and trash the XR platform now, even tho those tools made them plenty of money the past few years.

I agree in the 60v aspect. I like the 60v I own. However, I see those more for proffesional use, where an XR series is one that should be their base for durability. The 20v max line, (as you might've seen me post many times before), is a tool that is overvalued, and underwhelming when compared to the DeWalt series that cost less, or more.
However, a deal is a deal. And as far as deals go, this isnt a very good one, and Acme Tools is a gamble for many people.
Personally, I love Dewalt, but they are falling fast.
For a tool that the average homeowner should have, an XR series should last a lifetime. And the deals that have came around, and are likely still to come, destroy this "deal".
Now... if only they could lighten the weight of the 60v tools. If using them as a 60v, I use 9ah and 12ah batteries, and they become really unbalanced, and fatiguing throughout a day. I feel that if 60v is their pro line, they will want to consider "reinventing the wheel" in terms of how their tools are designed.
For now, DeWalt is becoming more Craftsman, than DeWalt. And other companies are growing, and passing them by. If I wasnt βΎοΈ's deep in Black and Yellow, I'd be inclined to switch out to add more red, green, or blue to my collection. Lol.
(Btw, know anyone that wants to buy a frickin' ton of the zipper bags that come with the tools? You could rent a house with the numbers I have lol.)

I use 60v Greenworks in the yard with a 4ah battery that weighs over 4 pounds and couldn't imagine wielding a handheld tool with a battery 2 to 3 times that size. A drill, saw, or grinder with 8-12lbs of battery hanging off the end just seems like a really bad idea.
Don't they make smaller 60v batteries?

As for DeWalt, some balance well with the 60. But their 60v is a bit different. For instance, if you use the 6ah 60v, its actually 6ah at 20v but only 2ah at 60v. But the 6ah standard (xr) 20v batteries are pretty much worthless due to the extremely minimal difference in runtime, compared to a 5ah 20v. And the 6ah 20v are often a lit more costly, and heavier than the 5an. So if doing a 6ah, you will want the Flexvolt battery which is a 6ah 20v, but can be used as 2ah 60v.
It seems more confusing than it really is lol.
Personally, I use 5ah 20v batts for most of my 20v needs. Then I jump up to the 9ah Flexvolt (which is 3ah 60v). I use it in the hammer drill and impact wrench, but they are REALLLLY unbalanced in other tools like the angle grinder, and circular saw. But those tools are true 20v tools that get an "assist" by the 60v aspect. But personally, I cant tell the difference on that so called assist. I do notice the batteries get REALLY hot but the output doesnt seem to vary.
Many battery powered tools are unbalanced, but none moreso than the trim routers every company makes lol. All companies need to find a way to redesign those... that's a tool I only use in a corded version. I've seen a lot of people get bit by those little routers.
