I am an Infectious Disease Control Nurse (RN) for 20 years. Sorry, I doubt your story but it is fictitious. Here is just one study that shows masks don't work.....https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article...94_article [cdc.gov]

You can also lookup peer-reviewed studies (the GOLD standard in studies) done in Canada (2014), Vietnam (2016), and Denmark and China (2020) that also shows masks don't work.

Have a good day and thanks for playing today!
It's funny that it's already March 2021 and yet people are still arguing whether masks work or not.
I'm a PhD student in Bioengineering at one of the top Bioengineering programs in the nation, and I've been following literature reviews on masks ever since the pandemic started. Yes there have been conflicting conclusions on whether masks reduce infection risk for the people wearing them. However:
1) Most controlled studies are based on the flu virus (such as the one you quoted) due to abundant researches on its nature of transmission as well as treatment, whereas studies on COVID are mostly observational studies or surveys for obvious ethic reasons. Whether studies on influenza directly translate to COVID is a big question mark.
2) While wearing a mask might not help lower your risk of getting the virus from other people, it is proven that wearing a mask CAN reduce your emission of aerosols and droplets through speech and respiratory activities such as sneezing and coughing. There has been an increasing number of literatures on this topic since COVID started, I'm sure if you just google it you will be able to find them, here's the most recent one I read about: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstr...t/9329130. I'm not going to argue whether wearing a mask protects you, but it does protect others from you in case you have COVID, which is the major reason behind CDC's implementation of masks.
3) Taking a step back, I'd still wear a mask to protect myself from COVID even though some studies showed no reduction in transmission (with flu) while wearing a mask. To me, it seems the only negative of wearing a mask is the minor discomfort, with the potential benefit of protecting myself from COVID (again, unproven, thus potential), so I'll happily take it.
All these being said, the most important thing is still staying at home as much as you can, because at the end of the day, any mask wearing is just preventative.

Did you even bother reading it?

"However, as with hand hygiene, face masks might be able to reduce the transmission of other infections and therefore have value in an influenza pandemic when healthcare resources are stretched."

Up front apologies. Is it somehow possible to get a Costco price without a membership? My nearest one is 35 miles away.

Apologies for the hijack, but I did a search here and via Google, but couldn't find anything.

Thanks in advance (I hope)

You do realize your reading comprehension skills are sadly lacking. Try reading the entire article rather than cherry picking out one sentence!

The study he has referenced has never been peer-reviewed, therefore only a theory!

I am cherry picking the overall conclusion? LMAO Are you serious?

Here's the entire sentence from the last paragraph of the study you cited

And this study isn't current as this was done in 2/6/2020 per the University of Hong Kong, China. See the authors?

When used in conjunction with widespread testing, contact tracing, quarantining of anyone that may be infected, hand washing, and physical distancing, face masks are a valuable tool to reduce community transmission. All of these measures, through their effect on Re, have the potential to reduce the number of infections.

No point in wasting your time with zebra. Their sole purpose in partaking this deal was to flex their 'role' as an Infectious Disease Nurse, with a different albeit flawed opinion.
