The sound is terrific. However there is a limited per micro SD card of 128gb. In addition, the music needs to be imported into the device. You can not simply insert an SD card and listen.
Buttons rock. You don't have to look at the thing to track fwd, volume down, etc. I know... silly. I'm such a boomer.
If you're taking the trouble to play your own music files supposedly on a hi-fi device... why the hell would you care if there's bluetooth on it? Some of these posts make no sense and clearly aren't the audience for this device.

Sony used to be kings of portable music players. Then they went proprietary with their sound formats and media storage and messed everything up.
Sony has always gone their own way with formats and codecs. Betamax. ATRAC. Blu-ray.

When it goes their way (Blu-ray) it's great. When they hold on way too long (ATRACplus and all the crap Sony did in the early portable digital (MP3) player days, they inevitably become irrelevant in that particular industry.

I'm curious, what brand name device like this do you think has 1TB flash storage for this price?
I'm smoking crack.

I didn't realize hi-res DAP's comes with default 2 GB storage which seems very low to me as budget cellphones have more.

Another option that I might go is to get an older generation LG cellphone with the ESS Sabre DAC

unless the DAC in this Sony is superior.

Here for the laughs.
Such a small market for these. Audiophiles already know what they're looking for. My phone plays music well enough. I don't need to ruin that by buying a dac so I can never go back.

Wasn't this one of the casualties from the advent of smart phones?
Yeah, at least until all the desirable smartphones got rid of the headphone jack. I'd also venture that the DAC and amplifier on here are better than most smartphones. This also has a 45 hour battery life so you can listen to music all day without draining your phone battery (and this is about the size of your typical battery pack).

Of course, this is a niche product and I'm not going to buy one, but I am glad it exists and serves the needs of some audiophiles.

I still use my ipod nano 7th gen mostly because it's small and has the play/pause buttons, but the battery drains so fast to the point where I have it strapped to a portable battery bank to keep it charged. Every time I see this go on sale, I'm more and more tempted to get it.

Good question, apparently LG phones have the chip to actually play in full res. I have an LG with all the specs needed but I want a dedicated player for music.
