I'll say it again. You can undervolt the processor a good amount: I boosted my 6 core performance 29%, and it runs cooler. You can basically make it as good as a Ryzen (or better) with no risk to hardware. You have total freedom to manipulate power, temperature, and noise to your liking. For instance it runs just as fast at 35W as it did at 45W stock. If I max out the fans and CPU I can run at ~68W and 91C and 4.3MHz on all cores forever.

Undervolting is locked out of most 10th gen CPUs, but MSI allows it. You need to enable it in the bios, and then use Throttlestop. Ryzen processors can't be undervolted.

4th time I've linked in this thread? https://www.techpowerup.com/forum...75.279412/

I'd never done anything like this before. It wasn't hard.

IMO if you care enough about value and performance to come to SD looking for deals, you should also care enough to UV&OC your Intel CPU and tweak the settings. It makes a huge difference and isn't hard.
.
Agreed. But if you are getting the laptop for someone else, that criterion would not apply.

Really good price for a 2070p. If this came with a ryzen 4800h/5800h I'd be all over it. With the intel cpu, I'm torn....really want a 17" with a higher end video card, but I don't want to be bottlenecked by the cpu...
What games do you play that would not max out the GPU but would yet be throttled by the CPU on this laptop? Or, are you referring to productivity applications not games?

FYI ... ALL the special characters on the keyboard keys (all the characters you use with the Shift key) do not light up. I mean all of them, not just a few, all the characters that appear on the top part of the keys.
So you cannot see any of these special characters as they stay dark and unlit.
Only a stupid, imbecile and cheap manufacturer like MSI will design such a horrible and irritating keyboard.
I did not like using this laptop that I returned it to Costco.
I really think that MSI is very stupid....they ruined this laptop.
I don't know what you are talking about. All mine are lit all the time. Everything on every key plus the edge.

You must have enabled some odd setting.

1. What convinced you to take the plunge?

2. I can't see how a big change from the 2060. At best, the GPU performance will increase by 10%. That's not, in my opinion, significant to get a new laptop.

Very valid point...
1. its a little faster
2. I am mining, This laptop was from Microcenter with no extra warranty, I am creeping up on one year and would like to off it before something happens. I have only been mining for about a month tho, but would rather mine on something that is covered. I have been eyeballing other Costo deals, I like the extra warranty they offer.
3. This is a larger 17" monitor I could go for a larger screen.
4. I feel like can get an easy $1k from my current setup right now, and that may change in the near future if mining tanks. I kinda need to move quickly if I want to recoup my initial investment of $1K from microcenter. The way I look at it, I am "re-upping" my investment for near no cost. Depends on how much I can off my current Omen for.
5. I have 3 months to take it back if a better deal pops up on a 3060 or 3080. The 3060 listed above is a 6gb card, I think this one will pan out a little better for mining. I don't normally condone returning something just because "I don't like it" or "a better deal pops up", but I can price match for another 30days.

I could be convinced out of it, I am very on the edge. I don't only mine on a laptop, I have several other desktops mining right now, but I need a laptop for my daily driver and have no issues leaving it run WIDE OPEN 27/7 making money. This Omen is clearing about $2.50 a day in profits.

This is a tuff call!! I have an omen 15 with the same I7-10750 but with the 2060. I really only use it for day to day work and, of course Hashing. It only does about 23-28mh/s. I picked it up a year ago. I see it's worth the same now as I paid a year ago. Was wanting upgrade for something with a new warrenty sense I'm running it very hard now.
Costco seems to be the way but wonder if the extra $100 will ever pay for its self.
Also I have a 15" now and the larger screen would be dope.
see how many watts were assigned to the 2060 GPU. If its only 60 watts or something like that, there is a chance to flash bios it up to 115 watts (Nvidia released a patch but the bios update may have to come from the manufacturer), with a material improvement. You have to read up on it. In this thread, I read someone who did it. there are also step by step instructions on how to do it. Read up and Research.

a) I like the way you think. You will go far in life, no doubt about that.

b) Could you provide a brief description with what you actually do with bitcoin mining. Do you write code? What's the action on your part. Are you competing with others. When do you get the payoff - in stages after you complete a course of action, and if so what stage signifies a completion of a stage in the process.

Mine is this model here:
https://www.costco.com/.product.1...0_MarchMVM

All the special keyboard characters DO NOT LIGHT UP.
I tried 3 different models, plus the display model at my Costco store.
All these laptops unfortunately have the same poor issue.

Oh boy, here we go LMAO ... I use Nicehash for everything at this point. Very stable and I can control my desktops remotely from a phone app from anywhere! Go to youtube and start learning. Its a deep deep hole, but I am slightly ahead at this point

To answer some questions, Nicehash pays in Bitcoin for work that that your GPU/CPU does. I am currently holding the bitcoin. Once you trade it to USD its a taxable event. I also do not want to raise my income right now for other reasons... so ill hold the bitcoin. Also, the value is jumping so it makes sense to just hold the bitcoin right now. Everyone has their own methods.

Hmmm, wondering is the issue you described, if true, is on the MSI GE75 Raider 2070 but not the 2060 which rruff has.

So Nicehash essentially "rents" your computer's time. So, does it pay by the hour, by day, by a competed action?

Why couldn't Nicehash rent computers from commercial corporations or buy its own computers and work on them?

You need GPU's to mine bitcoin, well actually Ethium right now. They do also have some algrithums that use the CPU's to mine also. Thus why they need to rent GPU power to others that want to mine with it.

Nicehash does payout every 4 hours, but only if you hit a minimum. If you do not hit the minimum in that timespan you don't lose your coin, it just waits and accumulates more bitcoin over each 4-hour timespan until you hit the minimum.

Most (including myself) move the Bitcoin from the wallet in Nicehash (its not actually a wallet either) and move it to another Bitcoin wallet you have elsewhere. Then sell it, or hold it.

I haven't put any games on mine. Download the Unigine benchmarks and Cinebench. They are free and easy to use. Throttlestop has a good benchmark for checking if the cores are stable.
