I'll say it again. You can undervolt the processor a good amount: I boosted my 6 core performance 29%, and it runs cooler. You can basically make it as good as a Ryzen (or better) with no risk to hardware. You have total freedom to manipulate power, temperature, and noise to your liking. For instance it runs just as fast at 35W as it did at 45W stock. If I max out the fans and CPU I can run at ~68W and 91C and 4.3MHz on all cores forever.

Undervolting is locked out of most 10th gen CPUs, but MSI allows it. You need to enable it in the bios, and then use Throttlestop. Ryzen processors can't be undervolted.

4th time I've linked in this thread? https://www.techpowerup.com/forum...75.279412/

I'd never done anything like this before. It wasn't hard.

Of course your opinion will be valued. heck for some display quality might be #1 especially if one is staring at a screen for 8+ hours a day, as I do.

Do you have any recommendations for matt large screen (27" or larger) monitors? Mainly for office non-gaming stuff and browsing.
As much as I'd love to help, I'm not too familiar with your use case, so I'll just punt this way: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/re...ess-office

HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION
If the one in the link below (ASUS 2070 SUPER) is available for $1,300 again (it was at this sale price previously), would you get it over the $1,200 MSI 2070 in this deal?

I have watched a lot of videos comparing the RTX2070 to the 3060, base on FPS the 2070 seems to be better. Anyone with any other experience that would like to share? Thanks in advance.
what is the 3060 "base"? 60 watts , 80 watts, 115 watts?

What is the 2070? plan vanilla like the one in this deal or the 2070 SUPER?

I'll be heading down to my local Costco today after work to play around with their demo (if it's even up).

My 2 major concerns are:
1) The documented backlight bleeding on the display (when on dark black background). Apparently it gets worse during life of laptop (I'm assuming from tight hinges constantly applying pressure with every open and close action of the lid)
2) The factory "tamper sticker" placed on one of the screws on the bottom of the chassis. You are within your right to remove the bottom and upgrade parts, but I can just seem this being a potential headache if you want to return to Costco during 90 day window or even sending in for any warranty repair. I can just see either the customer service desk / manager at the store having an issue with the tamper sticker being "broken".

Pretty good review of the Costco 2060 model -> https://www.reddit.com/r/MSILapto..._hz_intel/

User ended up returning due to backlight bleed getting worse as time went on.

Just my 2 cents.

What's the solution? Take out the processor and put new glue?
Yep, new paste. I'm assuming you've monitored temperatures and know that "getting too hot" is the real issue?

Assuming that is the 3060 that boosts to 95w, they should be very close. If it boosts to 80W, then the 2070 should be faster.

Bought 2060 model for my son, within a couple of months the sound speakers gave up, and started to crackle. He didn't even push the laptop with games etc. Costco took it back no questions asked. Staying away from MSI for now.

Actually, that was for a relative. I have to ask more inquisitive questions. I am assuming it was a heating problem but I couldn't say for sure.
If indeed overheating is the issue:
Reapplying the thermal paste - is that only for the CPU and not the GPU?

Thanks.

Why is #3 silly? That's insurance. I want the MSI 2060 GTX for $1100 and there is no guarantee the rebate will come back around. Getting the 2070 for $1,200 now means I can keep the 2070 (without opening it), and:

a) Return it when the $1100 2060 comes around

or

b) Keep the 2070, if it 2060 $1100 doesn't come around

Or, are you saying its too much trouble (and overthinking) for just $100?

I have no intent to crypto mine.

What bloatware comes with the laptop that you had to install?
Why would you not want to keep the 2070? It's faster and has 8 gigs of ram to the 2060 only 6 which will play a important role in the future scheme of things for only a $100. No brainer.

Changing Thermal paste on the GPU is not needed. Just do the CPU with liquid metal and use liquid electric tape to insulate around it.

1. The major problem is that no gaming laptop covers all the requirements of users. Great ones in most respects have overheating problems; other that don't, have poor screens; others have crippled CPU or GPUs, etc. Others are prohibitive in cost.

I think what others are saying in this long thread is that that this laptop offers the the best combination of features for the stated price, possibly hands down, which is why it is a deal.

2. iGeorge: With respect to backlit bleeding, we don't know whether its is 1 or 2 units in a 1,000 or a systemic problem impacting most in the line. Therefore we will EAGERLY look forward to your review today! Thanks in advance and much appreciated!
