This will seem petty, but I need to vent.

At the local store, Peppermint Patty's are on sale 4 for $3 and also had "extra 50% off" clearance stickers on them. I bought 4.

My goal was that they would ring up 4 for $3, 50% clearance makes it $1.50, then $1/4 L2C makes it $0.50.

The manager/cashier decided to take a shortcut and just ring up 2 instead of 4. This meant that A - I paid $1.09 each instead of the $0.75 sale price and B - the L2C only took of $0.50/2 instead of $1/4. So I spent $1.68.

Being overcharged $1.18 isn't a lot, but it's the principle - this store screws up A LOT. Between Covid and the store manager kind of being a jerk, I don't feel like going back to the store. I tried chat support and they refused to help. Only $1 so I'm not putting much more effort in and will only take 1 more action at most. Do I eat the loss or give Walgreens a middle finger by opening a credit card dispute for $1.18?

That is so annoying ☹️ I will say that usually the extra 50% off price is based on the regular tag, not off whatever the weekly deal is. Sometimes the 50% off price is the same as the weekly sale price!

The cashier should have rung up all four though so the coupon worked. And then chat might have been more helpful.

The old clearance tags said "50% of the regular price". The new tags say "50% extra savings". That seems like a deliberate language change, and I'm interpreting the new language to mean extra savings on top of any other sales prices.

My frustration with online chat was that I started at #30 in the queue, and when I was #2 in the queue the site auto-logged me out. Then when I waited a 2nd time starting at #34 in the queue, I was summarily told online chat only handles problems with online orders, not in-store orders. Admittedly I was doing other work while waiting in the queue, but still annoying.

Eat the peppermint patties and use the number on the bottom of your receipt to give the store manager a negative review. Seems to be the only way to get these dolts to shape up. Even then, some never do. We have one store manager in our city that limits sale items to 1 per visit even if the sale requires a purchase of 2 to get the deal. He is still there and refuses to change even though I have reported his silly policy several times. His store is in a very affluent area and does a brisk business, so I assume most of his customers could care less about a sale.

Report him to your state's attorney general for false advertisement. That will change his made up policy real quick.
