If you scroll down the description where the other models are listed you can see the 700 series, clip the coupon on that and it is only $45. The 700 and up models all have adjustable flow control valves if you are worried about turbulence.

FLUVAL 07 series is MUCH BETTER but..

This canister filter was the first one I was going to go for due to price. I thought of whats happening with the filtration and thought it was absurd looking at some of these other canister filters. I then decided to do a lot of research including top YouTube channels but also popular forums and everyone seems to REALLY love the Fluval 07 series a lot.

I gave it a look just for the hell of it and started noticing major features I didnt think about

Is the motor completely silent or is it a loud noise?
How easy is it to get the trays out?
Does it have flow adjustment?
How big are to tubes going in and out of the aquarium?
What free media comes with it and is it any good?
How many layers does it have?
Whats the warranty period and is it any good?
Whats the actual size of the cannister filter itself?
What does the intake and outtake ends look like and whats their functionality?

After I started to actually give it thought I was like I see why everyone invest so much in the Fluval filters. I would have made a major mistake if I went with the one here. The lack of features, the bulkiness of it, not just the canister filter body itself but the actual pipes and what goes into the aquarium that people will actually see, this is very important to me. Not to mention we're comparing a cheap Chinese motor you can actually hear clearly verse a SILENT Italian filter so even if you dont tuck it inside a cabinet, it's still silent and it's aesthetically pleasing so if someone saw it, it doesn't look cheap and horrible. The actual price for the Fluval if all those features I bulletined above are important - it's a no brainer and with PETCO you can get a significant amount off (up to $50 off). You're also getting top notch filters with excellent media included in their price.

Why I would get this filter:

If noise wasn't important to me
If aesthetics weren't important with what goes in the tank, tubing, and canister itself
Easy flow control built in that actually worked
Ease of cleaning the media stacks/filtration wasn't a big deal
If I were on a really tight budget
A fish room where I had many large tanks (even here, some will simply DIY their own filtration)

I think this has its market for sure but if you are willing to spend a bit more and its your show tank, seriously look at Fluval and also look at Fluval 3.0 light, it's highly recommended from top YouTubers but also across the community in general. I've found Fluval to be impressive, up there with Seachem (excellent hang on back filter but also one of the priciest options for HOB).

Besides the size, the 1000 comes with 3 media filter baskets while the 700 only allows for 2. For a few bucks more I'd go for the 1000 over the 700, and you can adjust the flow so it's not too high for your tank.
Thank you very much for the info. I went ahead and do the change of order.

Thank you. Pick up the 700.
I have a 20gal tall tank with some green algae hair growing on it.
Could anyone show me how I could add a diy co2 to this filter? I'm new to diy co2 and this type of filter.
Thank you very much
YouTube diy co2. It's simple. There are two ways, one bottle and two bottles setup. I like the one bottle way.. sugar , dry yeast, and warm water. Shake it and leave it closed for about 3 hrs and you'll see co2. It's the hardware that is kinda expensive. Good luck

Are these things waterproof? I am thinking about using one of these to filter my 150g patio pond.

I have had many of these, connection pieces break off and they tend to leak. But they are inexpensive.

Would this be a good replacement for 2 built in power heads that Marineland top for my 65 gallon. Over the years, those power heads been leaking some water out the back side.

The power heads do work well along with its bio wheel. But really looking at something to resolve the minor leaking problem.

Great price on a great canister filter. Beats the recent low prices by ~$5. (I bought 2 at two separate points in 2020 for $55)

I have a 20 gallon freshwater, heavily planted, with a couple of hanging filters on the back ( 2x Aqueon QuietFlow Aquarium Power Filter, Size 10.) I'm looking for something that will be less disruptive for the creatures and maybe less maintenance too.

Is this overkill? On lowest settings would it provide an advantage over the current units?
Should be fine. Canister filters don't put out too much flow and you can always adjust it with a spray bar with more holes/change direction of the spray.

Cheap canister filters are likely going to be noisier than a HOB. Idk why anyone would go cheap on something that could ruin your house. Imagine how quickly this canister filter could empty your fish tank onto the floor if it leaks.
That's why I buy eheim products so I don't have to worry about replacing my wood floors.

I invested in a 40 gallon seaclear acrylic tank, it's crystal clear and seamless, and given the expense of the tank itself and how great it looks, I didn't want it crapped up with over the back filters (also wanted to avoid giving my cat anyplace to mess up the setup or cause a disaster). After loads of research, I ended up at the same conclusion as you - Fluval 07. It comes with all the media you need for initial use, has 3 baskets for filter media, so quiet I have to open the cabinet and stick my head in to hear if its running, and it keeps the tank crystal clear with only a 20% water change weekly. I also hooked the intake up to an undergravel system, slotted pvc pipes I picked up on ebay that connect up to the intake. I'm not sure how much difference the undergravel system works, other than avoiding the intake possibly sucking fish in (that was my main reason for using an undergravel system). I still suction out the gravel when I do a water change, it does seem like it picks up lots less filth than when I had an over the back filter in a 55 gallon tank - suctioning the gravel in that was nasty business with loads of filth. This is what I picked up for undergravel system: https://www.amazon.com/Undergrave...674&sr=8-1

Great post. I never thought to use the cheap nylon pot scrubbers as media. Pretty clever.
I use them in a home made sump (10 gal tank). Of the 3 Chambers I made the first one my mechanical filter (nylon scrubbers), second chamber biological filter (lava rocks), third chamber has my tank heaters followed by my return pump. All learned from Joey (King of DIY) on youtube
