By my math, if a person waited until right before this offer expires (4/9), their 4 month subscription would last through the Summer Olympics. I don't believe they have announced what Olympics coverage will be broadcast on Peacock yet but it is expected that Peacock will have a significant amount of Olympics coverage.

These streaming services are such a scam. With so many out there now, its actually cheaper to just get cable.

This is the big advantage in a house with a dozen televisions. When I had my house built a little over 8 years ago I had the builder run some HDMI cables to be able to split some cable boxes and have the video in multiple locations from a single cable box, it wasn't an elegant solution but worked for what we needed (e.g., the television in the master bathroom and master bedroom used the same cable box). Now we just have Roku on every tv, and YouTube TV, despite the quickly escalating price, is still better than cable ever was, especially with it's DVR capability (store as much as you want for nine months). Of course we also have other services, Amazon Prime, Disney+ for half price for 3 years, Apple TV for free with a new phone, Netflix for free with T-mobile, then other services depending on offers, HBO Max for six months with the recent discount+AMEX offer, Peacock for free right now with the AMEX offer, Hulu TV for a year for $24, and then just recently Paramount Plus for a year for $50 (could have been $30 with commercials). It's Peak TV folks, enjoy it while you can, because it's hard to imagine all these services surviving in the long-term.
You can also get a tivo and never rent a cable box. We have been using tivo for over 20 years and so we havent ever had to rent/lease a cable box. We just rent a $1.50 cable card. Got Tivo Minis for each room and they work great. Obviously cable is starting to eventually go out, but its been great while it lasted.
My total cable & 100Mbps internet are $95 a month after all fees and taxes. Super easy system unlike streaming.

Am I understanding correctly that this "Premium" version of an OTA channel usually costs $10/month and it still has ads? Aren't removing ads the only reason to pay for a channel? (It is for me, otherwise I won't watch- pay or not).

But cable won't have a lot of the stuff that's on these services. Depends on what you watch

It's not nearly as convenient, but after this happened I waited for a VUDU sale and just bought the entire series for $30. Now I only have to worry about VUDU going bankrupt, rather than the streaming service swapping. I just had no desire to add another service. Peacock and Paramount may have some good stuff, but I'm tapped out. They're too late to the game for me.
Vudu recently got sold to Fandango, which is owned by a combination of NBCU (Peacock) and Warner (HBOMax). You really don't need to worry about them going bankrupt, if anything they might get merged into one of those other services in 5~10 years.

I'm getting ready to move, and I looked into cable services. Of my whopping TWO options (smh) 1G internet=$65 and OTA channels 2,4,5,7,9,11,13 bring it up to $104. They are actually charging $39 for OTA stations. That's just insane.

Some of us live where we can't get OTA signals. And Sling, Vidgo, maybe others don't provide me with a national affiliate station. Vidgo did have a NYC ABC channel. I live 1000 miles from NYC.
But I don't really watch TV, so to get all these shows delivered to me when I want to watch them is worth $2.50/month. I watched a movie the other day on the free tier of Peacock. The ad/informercial ran at the beginning of the movie for 3 minutes. That was all for that movie, some movies have more commercials. And I now like to watch SNL on Sunday without commercials, no singers in less than 1 hour. I don't care if some content is missing. Google movies to watch on Peacock. I can't find them on Charter at >$100/month. Which I cancelled over a year ago.
I also don't subscribe to Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, HBO, etc...
Where do people find the time to watch all these shows?

Thanks OP

6 years ago, I could get it for $99 (thru their rep at best buy), cable + tv + a premium
Now I pay $161 incl tax triple play (I don't use their phone, but this pkg was cheapest) 300mbs internet 1.2 TB cap, expanded basic tv, including an M card rental. I use bubbleupnp/vlc to watch on tablets with it. I own my cable modem. 2yr contract.
I got peacock + 1/mo for 1 month free trial through prime, but xfinity doesn't let you watch a lot of the series, only the first show, so I have to use prime app on my phone with chromecast. Xfinity phone app sux.
Just ordered google tv with netflix. I hope that picks up xfinity set top box channels somehow.
How do people stream movies with 1.2 terabyte cap? I hour of movie is 7gigs. It burns up data quickly

You really need to limit which streaming services you subscribe to based on what you actually watch. Don't have 6 different subscription streaming services, but only use 2 of them once a month. Also ads can eat my shorts. I'm not paying for a subscription just to get ads. anyway. This is why people pirate things.
