Man you're getting down votes, but you're right.

Ryobi's new brushless stuff is just as expensive as the Big Three brands. Their new 1/2" brushless impact wrench does 500 ft/lbs. Cool! But the thing retails for $199 now while the DCF894 from DeWALT can be had for around $140 on eBay brand new and is just as powerful, if not more.

If you have time on your side, the best thing to do is collect Dewalt, Milwaukee, or Makita tools as they go on sale or with a free battery. You'll end up paying about the same as you would for Ryobi, but now you got premium tools.
Thanks for the comment. From frequency of deal/sale perspective, which one of the three premium brands have more deals?

The new Ryobi [homedepot.com] at full retail is $159, not $199, and does 600 ft-lbs, not 500 ft-lbs.

The DeWalt [homedepot.com] at full retail is $239, but currently a special buy at $199.

What a bunch of dribble.

The Ryobi is 600 ft/lbs and only $159, at an established retailer with full warranty and 180 day return period.

Good luck with your eBay Dewalt special with a questionable seller regarding warranty and returns.

Dewalt seems to have the most sales, as they're sold at more places. At the end of the day, I don't believe one brand will be able to offer everything alone. Milwaukee has great 12 volt stuff, Dewalt has Flexvolt which is amazing, and Makita seems very innovative.

Or if you're not a tool snob and don't need 200+ tool types, get Kobalt on sale. 8/10 performance for 1/2 price. I went Dewalt though because I did need some of the 200+ tool types. Dewalt seems to start a bit cheaper than Milwaukee and go on sale more frequently. I'd call them 9/10 performance with Milwaukee at 10/10 performance.

Makita goes to 11...

For the most part, amongst the top tier of tools, there is more of a difference between the specific tool type. One brand has a better sander, another a better nailer. When you pick one of the vendors you are picking that. Every Ryobi tool I've bought lasted a few years and died. The thing that dewalt has over the others is that it goes on sale more often with better deals, and has a greater range of tool types. They don't make the best tool of every type and neither does milwakee or Makita.

I've heard rumors that Kobalt is going the way of the dodo, going to be replaced by Craftsman, and although it's just a rumour if you go to Lowes now, you see a lot more red everywhere you look, than blue. I hate what Sears did to Craftsman, but if they start making a better product, the competition is good for everyone, and the name is worth something.

That's a very pragmatic way to put it, and I don't disagree at all. It just seems like the more common items like drills, wrenches, and drivers seem to go to Milwaukee for outright performance.

Lol on going to 11. I set that one up for Makita

Our local home depot has signage out with the promo starting 3/29. Not sure if it's just for that store in particular, because we went to another one in the area and they had already set up for it but the promo wasn't running yet...

EDIT: Okay I thought the signs were out...apparently my husband found them hidden behind the display boxes... laugh out loud

YMMV - Found this deal on 3/14 at a local store in New Hampshire. The displays were set up, but the bundle didn't ring up correctly (I assume not supposed to be live yet). Manager took a look at the display and discounted the 2 batteries to $1 on the receipt (bought the nailer $319 and sander $139).

So I guess you needed the batteries? I thought this thread was mainly attractive for the hackability (buy the tool, get the free battery, return the battery and get the tool for a nice discount).

You should return the tools and keep the batteries. LOL
