What setting di you have to cI hange and in which program?
I only used the Windows 10 power settings: Power Options, Change Plan Settings, Change Advanced Power Settings, Processor Power Management, Maximum Power State. But 50% CPU only helped a little.

What didn't work for me was making the BIOS change and then used ThrottleStop to lower the CPU power. My problems with the computer locking up increased. (no such problem with my ThrottleStop'd Dell XPS 15). Again, I think I got a lemon with my original MSI GE76.

Costco has the MSI GE76 again and my replacement MSI GE76 just arrived today. I've been using it for about 10 hours w/o a hint of trouble. CPU is 100%. I'm running VMware, WebEx, TEAMS, and even streaming video with Plex and the fan only spins on occasion (granted, I made a few minor adjustments in Dragon Center). The CPU and GPU run at a cool 45 degrees Celsius. This second GE76 is what I was hoping for. I notice the newer GE76 Windows directory shows the zh-CN and zh-TW language packs which suggests that MSI has been tweaking the build since my prior purchase. My previous GE76 does not have these language packs.

Since the replacement GE76 is working so well, I do not have immediate plans to apply the ThrottleStop. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Is the Costco one you are referring to? It is $2000 (gulp!)

Thanks I can now find it.

If you change that to 50%, I assume:

a) It will run cooler (how many degrees did it drop by)?
b) Performance will reduce such as frame rates in games? What was the reduction?

for others such as RRUFF, why isn't changing power the way Bogus1 described a legitimate option?

And yes, you can undervolt MSI Intel laptops. Need to enable it in the bios.
Specific steps and recommend undervolt settlings? I know it varies from computer to computer but indicate the default and suggest a safe one to try out. Then we can run the benchmark and indicate the score. Thanks

Lowering my MSI GE76 CPU to 50% only dropped 3 or 4 degree celcius and the slowdown in performance was subjectively more than I could bear. Most importantly, it didn't stabilize my computer. I think my observations are an anomaly compared to what someone might experience with a properly functioning GE76. I believe the second GE76 is working correct and will not need significant tweaks.

On my XPS 15 9560, I used Throttlestop to undervolt my CPU by -125mv and the result was much more effective than lowering the CPU %. The result is a cool running XPS 15 without fan noise and the speed is good. If I get around to running Throttlestop on my new MSI GE76, I will take notes and share what I observe.

Off topic: the XPS 15 has a GPU design that is not very effective so any video (Webex, TEAMS, Plex) generates heat and makes the fans run loud. If anyone cares, BIOS 1.6 significantly increases heat and fan noise. BIOS 1.5.1 for the XPS 15 9560 has much better power management at the expense of a potential security problem. I'm ok with the security risk. BIOS 1.5.1 is required for Throttlestop to work with the XPS 15 9560. (sorry to go so far off topic).

Yes, $2000. I didn't want to pay that much. My wife pressured me into it. I was miserable with the first GE76 but I believe the second GE76 will be a good fit for my needs. I'm a heavy user of videoconferencing for work. If the computer is slow or makes noise, it interferes with my work. Some of the more affordable laptops are lower profile and do not have as much heat piping to dissipate the heat. I think the price is so high (too high!) because of the demand for the video card. This thread is for the GE75 and the GE76 doesn't really compare. For budget reasons, I prefer the GE75 and I was posting to this thread to get more information about the GE75. However, now that I have a working computer, I'll stick with what I have.

Just liquid metal the CPU and your heating will dissipate around 10C if you do it right. It just takes a little time and patients. Well worth it in the long run provided you do it correctly.
