Uniden R Series SW Download Tool (R7_20201013.zip file) Install the program, disregard the old firmware - https://www.uniden.info/download/index.cfm?s=R7
USB to UART Bridge Driver (if needed) https://www.silabs.com/developers...cp-drivers
Plug in the usb cable to your windows 10 pc. It should chime that a device was connected. Windows likely wont have a usb driver. Under "Device Manager" in windows, There will be a device called USB to UART Bridge and will likely be open with an icon stating no driver is installed. Update the driver by pointing it to the unzipped driver folder and it should install. Next run the program,it should automatically read the firmware (mine was 1.33). Click open under download file and point it to the 1.35 bin file and click start download at the bottom.

Uniden's R7 is a top of the line radar detector with a built-in GPS feature. With the R7, you can mark geographical points where you commonly encounter radar transmissions. These can be school zones, red-light cameras, and places where Police frequently monitor traffic. You can mark these points so the detector will announce "user mark ahead" when you approach them. Among other announcements, the voice notification feature lets you know when you are approaching a radar and what type of radar it is (red light, speed, etc. ).Displays Signal Strength and Vehicle Battery Voltage

It beeps, you recognize the band, you quickly learn what may be straydar and what is accurate information, and it reminds you to slow down.
You glance at the screen momentarily at the most.
Also thanks to this detector and other competitors the v1 finally created a new gen that doesn't look like it was still stuck in the 70s
Leaving out GPS was also a big mistake. Their excuse is auto-lockouts can hide legitimate radar too, but that's not the biggest benefit of GPS - it's speed-based alert control and red light camera alerts. Their "SAVVY" solution for speed-based alerts only adds more complexity, expense, and doesn't work with Tesla. Yeah, yeah, you can get GPS benefits using a third-party app on a phone, but that's far from ideal. I really feel Mike Valentine simply doesn't have the know how to implement the latest tech. They do have a nice, metal, die cast case though.

R7 is a stronger detector but is not best bang for the buck.
Does this work well in California? I'm in the Bay Area, and the couple times I got a speeding citation, they used lidar.

I'm sure you'll buy Radenso Theia for $1000 when it comes out since R7 will not provide adequate protection anymore
