cheap photo storage. bad reviews on amazon. alot available on amazon waregouse for $34 each for a reason.
I use Photosync to sync to my server from iphone and android devices. Have been using it for 6 years. Would endorse over this system.

Photosync is basically a small piece of software you install on your server or any computer/laptop in your home network. Then for each device you want photos backed up from, you install an app. I use it on my Android and my wife's iPhone.

The software will automatically back up any new pictures that are on your phone (including camera gallery, whatsapp, MMS, screenshots, anything!) to the server. You can set parameters on when backups are done. I set it to backup anytime the phone is connected to Wifi and a power plug. You can also set it up to backup whenever the phone enters your home network, e.g. when you return home.

You can also choose to backup to Amazon cloud, Google drive, dropbox, or a bunch of other cloud services. You can use FTP, WebDAV, pretty much anything.

One last thing is that the author is very nice and responds directly to your emails. I have emailed him twice in the last few years and he worked me through fixes.

I would recommend Photosync highly. Mine is set up on my home server. Photosync sends pics to that server. Then a Synology device backs up the server. Family pictures are important to me -- I want a backup of a backup.

no i have not. ive tried bluetooth and wifi (reset) connections. the app cant still see my ibi anymore. after a quick pin reset. my phone could connect to my ibi via wifi but the app cant see it.

there must be an easy way to re-connect the ibi to a different network. i could get it to work the first couple tries. not the app cant see it anymore.

Hi lilyly,
In the app you can change the wifi by going to menu->settings->lilyly's ibi->network->network. I'll upload a pic when I get to a desktop since I can't do it on the mobile app.

look. i have gotten it to work on different wifi networks multiple times. i know what i am doing.

after a couple times, now my "lilyly's ibi" is just gone from the network, with the greyed out cloud icon. so it doesnt matter how many times you clicks on that greyed out cloud, you cant get anywhere. no "network" option for you to continue.

ive tried their last connection diagnostics from the manual. fast pin reset, then connect via bluetooth and wifi. both connected (via ibi-xxxx name) but the app still has that greyed out cloud icon. cant get anywhere.

Bestbuy cancelled my order. They said they cancelled all of the orders (clearly, they didn't). Looks like this thing didn't work all that well anyways.

So, are people pulling the HDD out of this and throwing the rest away?

I ordered two from Best Buy (one for parents), both are working fine and was easy to set up. Overall I think it's great for backups. One thing missing I would of have liked is app notifications for the photo sharing when someone adds a new photo to an existing album. However, users will get email notifications for newly shared albums. I also have a Synology NAS and it doesn't have app notifications for photo sharing either (using Moments). Also, with Synology, I'd have to open up my router ports to share my photos, so that was one reason I wanted a separate device for sharing photos (for security). The ibi does not require any ports to be open by the router as far as I can tell.

Anyone know how to open it without breaking tabs?

I just realized this has an import from Google Photos feature. I have like 1.5TB worth of unorganized photos, many dupes, and Google Takeout is so freaking tedious. I'm at the home stretch but this would have been a godsend if it worked and I could use a 2TB drive instead.

If anyone is throwing away the plastic case, logic board, and/or power supply, please P M me first for an opportunity to up-cycle. I think they can be used to boot linux and may be useful for other purposes. I don't want the hard drives.

How well does this sync with social/cloud providers like facebook, gdrive etc.?

Also does this sync properly for large video files? When I used some other tools like nextcloud, that is one area where I found it to fall short. If it doesn't sync, does it notify, so that those can be manually moved? (like over USB by connecting phone to ibi to move it quickly for larger files instead of wifi)
Never had a problem with syncing videos on iPhone. They started making cloud access paid through third party services. For my use case, backing up the phones or computers, it is perfect.
