Just went to Branch. And maybe to save others the trouble from my experience:

Yes, signing up through Branch will waive first year Annual Fee (AF). They can also verify promotion amount to be 80k.

Unfortunately, anyone with existing Chase Sapphire Reserve will not qualify.

This is unless you signed up for CSR more than 48 months ago, you can cancel CSR, allow a couple of days for system to update, then sign up for Preferred with qualified bonus. It was too much trouble for me since I renewed annual fee in November 2020 and I didn't redeem all $300 travel credit yet.

Good luck to everyone else.

Since you're a current Chase customer, do they need to fill out the form from scratch? I don't want to spend too much inside a branch if I don't have to. TIA.
It was quick. They ask for Social and everything is prefilled. Then couple of questions and done.. I was out in 10 minutes total.

I went to a branch. The line is out of the door, 7 person ahead of me, 40 min before closing and was told that they probably won't get to me before closing. So, I came home, applied online and got approved. The bank branch seems to be always busy, there is alway a line when I drive by. Tried to save $95 AF, but failed.

Can someone weigh in on this?

If I sign up for the 80k promo for the preferred and let say a year or so later, I sign up for the reserve, would all my points be redeemable for 50% more redemption value? Preferred is currently at 25% more redmeptokn value versus reserve's 50%.

Do I have to have a banking account with Chase or can I just get the card and not an account? And are points one to one for airline miles?
Is this better than a card from one of the airlines for getting free trips?

yes you can. before your annual renewal is up, downgrade your preferred to chase freedom to maintain your ultimate reward points. wait 30 days and then apply to reserve card.

You can transfer your points between Chase Ultimate Reward accounts (Freedom, Sapphire, etc). So as long as you don't use them, yes, you can transfer them to your other cards. I have the reserve card, and transfer my points to Hyatt and Southwest for even better deals (most of the time).
