Keep in mind, it may not be a guaranteed policy. It might just be a one time courtesy thing that they just happen to do. It may be YMMV. Some banks do waive the AF even over the phone asking nicely as a one time courtesy. Also, calling the bank and asking isnt the smartest idea. It might just be done by the actual bankers, the people answering the phone might not know the policy.
Some people read online threads like this and see comments by others thinking its a guaranteed bank policy and thats not necessarily true. Some of this stuff is YMMV.
