New dropdown top bar sucks.

This is different than the other post in this form as I don't want to go back to the entire old redesign.

Hovering over community doesn't automatically bring up the list of forms.
Several forms are missing and it's annoying to have to add extra clicks to get there.
There is so much wasted space.
Something is wrong with the avatars and scaling. It's shrinks the width more than the height.
I'm guessing it's designed to me more mobile friendly (but IDK because I use basic html), but the desktop version still needs help.

Is there a way to just go back to the old header?

UPDATE from Slickdeals: The new header no longer slides back into view if you scroll up. Thank you to this group for the vocal feedback and examples of issues it created to help us quickly make that adjustment. We will continue to compile feedback and seek opportunities to improve the new header and all aspects of the site.

Another suggestion. Put the navigation bar:

in the dropdown if you're gonna make us use it. That's what i'd use more often to get back to the forum if I've read several pages of a thread and want to go look at more hot deals. I've never used those trending links.

Not here at the moment was just able to switch back.

Thanks ---- why not just call it "Forums" like the old site??

Totally agree. They should undo the change. It's just frustrating and annoying.
Quote from hunterr83 :
Please give us an option to pin the header bar to the top of the viewport or allow it to hide/show itself like it currently does.

I can't take this constant peek-a-boo behavior. The old header bar was slimmer and so having it permanently take up space at the top of the window was never an issue for me.
Quote from Blakester :
I too, switched over to "classic" because of the annoying header drop. I'm on a PC and today I tried to switch back to "redesign" to see if the banner issue had been rectified.... Clicking on "redesign" in the bottom corner of the page now takes me nowhere, I seem to be locked into "classic". I've tried it on both Firefox and Chrome with the same (negative) results. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue?

Reminds me of the old Eagle's classic, "Hotel California"....
Quote from LazyGayGuy :
the thread I was looking for!! I agree 100%!

let me pin it or something. its super annoying.
Quote from CPAESQ :
The redesign just came up on my PC browser.

Why is the HOT DEALS forum taken away??? I'm sure you hid it under something that made sense to a 'developer' and not a user.
Quote from kea2525 :
This bar blocks everything else.

I can't reach anything. Not my deals or my PM's

Total turn off. Why must everything be changed. If this stays I'm heading off to a new deals site that's for sure.

Wait your keeping this for the next 3 weeks. Confused

Well good luck with that.

Been coming here since 2003 and this is the first time I've recalled a site basically shooting itself in the foot. Having easy access to the forums was nice until today's changes. And now it's extra clicks just to get to where I usually go.

It's not so much "Oh, a few extra clicks, big deal". But rather, you had a pretty functional design before and now it's regressive and not intuitive. I'm not sure what the point of making it more cumbersome to find the forums, but changes like this make long term visitors such as myself turned off by unnecessary changes such as this.

yep! Makes perfect sense! lol
Hot deals is under community because the community is the one that generates the hot deals. No hot deals would exist without the community. On the other hand, the front page generates the most traffic so they try to make it as big as possible so people can come and consume deals without touching the community.

It's why I gather the search bar is so big; so visitors have easiest access to click on deals. They must have data indicating that most lurkers click on the deal and scroll only halfway leading to other UI changes like the Questions & Answers header (which is also unnecessarily huge).

My grievances were regarding burying the communities into extra clicks. Before it was just laid out. The site changes still are a step down as the community links were easier to get to and were laid bare at the top of the slick deals main page.

Im not sure about the changes made, but hiding community is still regressive to me. As far as the mobile interface is concerned.

The header (search bar, etc) takes up way too much unnecessary space on mobile. Also, there are more clicks involved getting to destinations compared to before. Both very annoying and frustrating.

no more drop down menu from the top. using classic model UI, to get to that stupid community, i have to scroll all the way to the bottom. usually take a quick 10 slides to get down there. EEK!

I am the member of the Slickdeals product team responsible for decisions related to the header. I want to continue to thank this group for the feedback and screen shots. To set expectations, we'll monitor, gather, and compile the feedback for the next ~3 weeks. Then we will set a plan for a wave of updates. You might be thinking "what? why?" to any number of changes we implemented. I'm happy to be transparent and address any questions. There is definitely a question about the "slide animation behavior." (Where the header slides back into view if you scroll up.) Some slickdeals pages can get quite long with vibrant deal reviews and comments. When at the bottom of one of those long pages (particularly on mobile), we heard members ask for a quick way to get to their next destination on the site. However, I am hearing that the "scroll up sensitivity" is TOO sensitive. This will be one of many things we look to tweak in a few weeks when all the feedback comes in. Thanks again for vocalizing your experiences and preferences.
We're at 3 weeks and the drop down bar still sucks just as much as after the initial update. What changes are planned?

I can't reach the inbox from the new Drop down, at least from older iOS devices. Most of the buttons do not work in the new drop-down menu on older iOS devices … BTW, I wish there was voting on threads in this forum.

Thanks for reporting this. It sounds like you are using Slickdeals in a web browser on your iOS device. (I welcome feedback on why you prefer the browser to the Slickdeals iOS app.) What iOS device are you using? Our testing team will try to recreate the issue so that we make sure we solve it. In the meantime, I just tested in Chrome and Safari on a newer iOS device. I was able to lightly touch the screen and scroll the page to access a link that might fall below the bottom edge of the screen. Thanks in advance for any added detail you can provide.

[UHg.. I wish my reply was preserved automatically before my page crashed]i'm going to have to reply later, but what happened to my full previous comment? I didn't know you guys edited our comments so drastically like that, could you send me back the full comment? Because It's time consuming even to comment/Type, and sometimes I May include slightly off-topic but related Things that are important to Me, possibly to others, to remind myself other things to check up on … i've already forgotten what I wrote. If you're going to do that kind of editing how about just striking through the parts you didn't like? Then that would also be illustrative of what kind of comments you guys don't like or allow, then I could learn something from your editing, and I could delete myself if I agree with you… I don't think I said anything that was against any rules? ... You should be totally upfront & obvious about that kind of editing. I have learned so much from Others slightly off-topic comments…

Oh, additionally commented about disappeared inbox messages… If you would've left those comments I could've copied and paste it onto my own thread, would've save me extra work!

And now we're at 6 weeks and if anything it's worse than before, what are you doing to make it better?

The only change to roll out recently was a link to the Slickdeals Rewards beta (cash back) program. Coming soon we plan to address a variety of the feedback received so far like reducing the height, and improving accessibility to deep links in the site like specific subforums. Feel free to post any specific changes you are seeking. We welcome all the feedback.
