If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

OK, now that I have the free line added (my 8th total line), and I see the promos, it definitely looks like it might make sense just to add a 9th line, even if it's paid. My situation is very slightly different, but I think this is what it would be:

I am currently at $143 for 8 voice lines (4 paid, 4 free) plus an Apple Watch line at $10 + $5 since I have the auto-pay discount on the 8 voice lines.

If I add a new line, even if it's paid, my total price should go down because I would have 5 paid lines, 4 free lines, plus the Apple Watch line:
- As chrissmith stated, I start at $310
- $40 autopay discount
- $54 insider discount
- $30 x 4 free lines ($120)
- Total $96 for the voice lines
- Add $15 for Apple Watch line, so I am back to $111

I can reduce it further by dropping the Apple Watch line to 500 MB instead of unlimited, but that's for a different discussion.

Is my math right? If so, I'm back to Costco to see if I can get another $150 on a BYOD...
I just added the line and waiting for the phone to be shipped. the account showed $310 with $25 discount match so $285. I had 4 free line and 4 paid line and just add the line for 9 lines. the 9th line is not in the account yet until I get the phone. How come the account is not showing any of my autopay or free line discount. Base on what you showed above for the new 9th line, it should be 310 - 40 (autopay) - 25 (discount match) - $30 x 5 free line ($150) so total will be $95, us that correct?

I did mine thru T-Mobile app chat. Will have to call in once phone is received to do port in .. The whole chat was smooth to add line and get iphone se
You can do port-in once you see the phone number in your account. I did that for a friend of mine and the free Iphone SE promo kicked in after successful port-in. His phone has just shipped, but he is all set with the promos.

Yep, my bad. Transposed the letters and also saw the L version, so thought it was on there. Guess they really want us to get off this plan.
Yeah I would have gotten off this plan and went with T-Mobile One 2 years ago had they let existing SC subscribers switch to T-One plan with the 20% hookup discount. I believe it was for new accounts only back then, as it's always been. Couldn't do a TOL to a new account and apply that hookup discount either; we missed out on a lot of promos that legacy SC subscribers weren't eligible for (Netflix, phone deals, free lines, no taxes, discount for using less than 1GB, etc)

Oh, I see now how the math works. Thank you so much! Wanted to rep, but somehow the system doesn't let me. Will try to figure it out.

Looks like it definitely makes sense for me to get this free line. I'd prefer doing it at costco.
Is it safer to upgrade my plan to 9-12 Magenta first via chat or T-force before going to costco? I am not sure if costco kiosk rep can do this plan upgrade the right way. Probably s/he will have to call T-Mobile anyway to move my plan to a new bracket.

As I understand, I may have to chose between MAGENTA9 and MGNTA9. SDers' consensus seems to be that upgrading to a new Magenta with 5GB hotspot (MGNTA9?) is worth it. Am I getting it right? Thanks again!
You have to get it done with T-force via twitter or facebook. Can't risk losing or improper transfer of promos and discounts during migration to a new SOC.
I am not too familiar with all the magenta plans. Please do you due diligence on that.

Can it port != qualifies for the iphone port in promotion. Numberbarn numbers are landline numbers. Until someone confirms that landline number qualifies, you are taking a risk.
I did it today. It doesn't matter where the number comes from as long as it's not a VOIP or been on T-Mobile within the last 90 days or a year.

Anyone can help? I set up a google voice free line and gave that number to agent but I get a text saying this number is not transferable and the rep asked me for account number for that port in number which I didn't have . She told me she tried anyway without account number for that line and later I got this text saying this number is not transferrable. Anyone can help.? I have ordered the iPhone SE but haven't received it yet and I gave the SIM card number to agent already
You need to unlock your google voice number. It is $3 to do that.

https://www.google.com/voice/b/0/unlock

If you go to google voice and click on 3 bars on top left hand side it will give you the option to select legacy google voice. Once you click that, you can click on voicemail & Text tab and set your voicemail pin.

Your phone number is the account number, and the voicemail pin is the pin for port-out.

Google Voice isn't eligible for the port in promotions.

If your SOC has to be changed for 9-12 plan, then you are better off getting it done via T-force on twitter or facebook and then add the line via T-force. I wouldn't risk SOC change with costco route.

How in the world did you achieve this?
I joined October 2020 with 20% Hookup, 3 paid 1 free. Added another free Black Friday, another at Christmas and this one yesterday. So far, 3 paid and 4 free for $103 including tax, after only 5 months as a customer. I'll keep adding the free every time, and drop the 3rd paid line once I max out the # of lines.

It is probably a SOC change which should be done via T-force on twitter or facebook. Adding a 9th line yourself or via a rep who doesn't understand the SOC change is risking all promos and discounts not transferring over.

I am in bit of an impasse and wanted to see what you guys think should be done. The T-Force and T-Mobile chat is telling me a big mumbo-jumbo that my SOC Code TIUNL2 is not eligible for the "2021 Line on Us P6" Promo. At least 6 different Agents said so on different platforms. The SOC Code list here and on Reddit clearly has the TIUNL2 on there as an eligible SOC Code for the "2021 Line on Us P6" Promo. What should I do? Is there a new eligible SOC Code list that is, by any chance, not posted here or on Reddit?
