If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

Did costco charge any fees (activation, sim card etc)? Did you have to bring your device to them at the time? Can you enable the device later?
They did not. Free activation and Sim card.

Just went to costco today and this offer is stackable with the BYOD $150 Costco Cash Card.
Did you have to tell the Costco rep to add the line as a free line or they did it as a regular addition and it showed as free line on your account, i was planning to head to Costco to do the same as you did.

Free iphone se (with port in) is via 24 months credit right ? so you have to keep the free line active for 24 months right ?
Yes, it's 24 months bill credits and you can't cancel the line before 24 months or you owe the full value of the device

I already bought a number from numberbarn. How can I check if it will work with the promotion?
Quote from crazy.dude :
If its non tmobile mvno or non GV it should work, unless the account info is incorrect. Check the port in number at tmobile site for eligibility. Not a guarantee it will work, but good to know tmobile recognizes it for port in.

https://www.t-mobile.com/resource...our-number
Port in # is not required to avail the Free line offer. It is only needed if you want free line + phone promo that requires port in--i.e. $830 off iP12 or Free iPSE 2020 (not 50% off)

i think there is some confusion between is my number able to port (any non TMO # ). . .and will this port # satisfy the port in phone promo requirements (i.e. only ATT or VZW or mvno exclusively on their networks for your particular mvno sim card or #)
The link above answers the former but doesn't address eligibility for port promo.

would try freecarrierlookup.com to find which carrier the line is "currently from"
if it says its VZW or ATT then you are set.

but if it says landline, TMO or Sprint or Bandwidth (GV) then no guarantees your PROMO WILL STICK PAST 2ND MONTH EVEN IF APPROVED AND SHOWS ON YOUR ACCOUNT NOW.
most of those number barn #'s trace back to Bandwidth

why risk losing the $830 or$800 in credits? just get an att or vzw mvno prepaid # to be safe

For anyone looking to buy a iPhone 8 for the trade-in requirement for Tmobile's iPhone 12, the following are the different sources ranked from best to worst. Keep in mind the phone carrier doesn't matter for the trade-in, so it can be unlocked, AT&T, Verizon, T-mobile, anything. Phone must not have water damage, cracked screen, anything that could be perceived as a cracked screen, password lock, or icloud lock. Small dents, scratches, screen burn, and weak batteries are okay.

Trademore - iPhone 8 starting at $159 [trademore.com]
Folks in the Cricket iPhone SE thread been trading their iPhone SE's for $200 Paypal from Trademore, so we know they are legit. They are also the trade-in inspector one of the cell carriers (Verizon or AT&T), so doubt they will sell anything that doesn't pass inspection. They will probably be your safest bet to acquire a good quality trade-in. Shipping is included in the price.

Swappa - iPhone 8 starting at $158 [swappa.com]
Swappa's policy is no junk, so you are covered if you receive something you can't trade in. That said, since everyone is a third party, you get a wide variety of prices and conditions. I have received cracked screens before, but the seller took it back immediately. Still, this may cause you to lose this Tmobile promotion. Shipping is included in the price.

Local (Craigslist, Offerup, etc)
Your experience will vary, and the onus is on you to validate the phone is ready for trade-in. You might score with a great deal, or you might get ripped off. Only go this route if you know how to inspect phones or you need the phone the same day.

eBay [ebay.com]
You will have to read each listing very carefully, since there are listings for cracked, water damaged, icloud locked, or otherwise untradeable phones. Returns policies also vary by seller. Unless you score an amazing deal on ebay, Trademore or Swappa are safer options.

Did you take two lines or one line? If it is BYOD I assume it is two lines. Once you come home need to call Tmobile to get first line free? If you added two lines are both lines free for two years? Can you explain steps? Also is it guaranteed to get trade in value if we go by Costco route?

Last week's BOGO add a line was 2 lines (add 2 lines, 2nd one becomes free). This Free Line is just a single line. No need to take two lines unless you only have 1 line total on your account.

If you are qualified for the free line the TMO system should apply it automatically to your account within a day or so for most people. No need to ask the costco rep to apply "a free line" they just need to add "a" line.

Only one free line per free line promo offer. I.e. you could have got the BOGO free line last week, plus the Free Line on Us 6 this week. They are good "forever" as long as you keep the lines active and don't cancel any other lines previously on account for 12 months, and maintain 2 paid lines at all times, and look before you leap onto another plan to make sure the free lines will stick, etc.

Costco usually doesn't do trade ins. They have similar deals to TMO, but they are different deals and on phones are usually rebate cards 2 months later after you buy phones paid in full at the store.

Some people are going to open the line at costco for the $150 rebate card, and then trying a day or two later to go to TMO store or online to add the iPhone trade/port in deal to that same line from costco

Ok, for those that switched plans and then added the free line, you need to wait for the free line to show up before contacting t-mobile to fix the bill. i ended up contacting them 2 time afterwards and finally everything is back to normal... could have done it with just 1 if I waited.

Please read the parent Reddit Post. A bunch of codes got taken off the list at 9P EST - it was just updated after my post. The TIUNL2 and bunch of Amplified plans are part of it. Not sure what happens if you added a line before the SOC Codes got taken off the list.
I chatted with a CSR and he told me TIUNL2, Amplified, is not qualified. Oh.. well..

The free iphone se requires port in. 50% off is without the port in. So once you port in a number, it should switch to the T536 promo or you can contact tforce if it didn't.
How long does it take to switch to the proper promo? My port in is already completed.

I added a new line at Costco on Thursday 2/18 to take advantage of the $150 Costco gift card, but didnt port over a phone number. I didn't realize until today there is a free iPhone SE deal through Tmo (2021 Apple Switch P1 T536). Can I still take advantage of the free iPhone SE deal if I port a number today?

After doing BYOD in Costco....will getting a new phone work? When they verify....they can easily find out that byod phone is not on the account...do we get the byod rebate still? Don't we need to add line
And phone at the same time for all these promo's to work?

I got a text to my primary indicating the enrollment in the promo as soon as the phone shipped. Or at least that's how it seemed it terms of the events.
