I went to Hamer Toyota and they had balls to mark those up 3k plus 1k gps add-on. Came to $56.5k with no negotiation because stimulus money is here and dealers wants it all. Sad state

Hydrogen Fuel cell is exempt from CA rebate income limits.

"The income cap applies for all eligible vehicle types except fuel-cell electric vehicles."

Solar installations are increasing at exponential rates. I and several acquaintances cover 100% of our miles with our own generated solar. Electric is becoming very cheap very fast.
Solar can't sustain our grid. I know Elon wants you to believe otherwise, but it simply can't with current technology. Or do you mean to have solar just to charge your own personal vehicle?

I believe they are a permanent solution for smaller cars.

The problem is that many people don't have garages to charge their cars and battery charging is unlikely to get much more faster than it is now.
What clean fuel is going to charge the batteries? You can't charge batteries from batteries and get positive returns.

My sister got this deal like 1-2years ago with the same 15k gas card.. however, recently they have been having hydrogen fuel station shortages in the san jose area so they haven't been able to drive it... i think they finally got some fuel back but i can be wrong. the other catch is the fuel is like 8/gal equivalent. i think to some it would be a killer deal to most its not a good deal since fuel stations are very limited.

good luck and enjoy!! hopefully you have better luck with fuel stations.

Sounds like you have some hands on use..

Is this price currently being subsidized on top of the pump price? and is the pump charging a road tax?

What is the current way the make they make gas (Chemical reaction or electrolysis? )?

That price per KWH needs to get a lot lower than these prices by a factor of 4 to be competitive with gas.. That is why I was thinking the Solar/Wind would be perfect for use when supply of electricity is in excess.
In CA at least, it's around $17/kg.

This YT explains the wheel to wheel inefficiencies of hydrogen. It's something like 4kw in = 1kw out. Where a battery EV is about 4kw in = 3 kw out. This is why it hasn't taken off.

I was interested to know if there's any qualifiers on the residual value. As with any Toyota, typically the goal is long-term ownership. This has been particularly critical given the typically high retail new and used prices.

However, here you're getting a significant upfront discount. Those discounts are typically also reflected in the long-term and (sometimes) short-term residual value. But even the operating costs on this car are subsidized with the fuel credit such that in any normal commuter scenario Toyota is paying you take this thing (in part so that they can meet fleet goals).

The comparison with an Avalon is almost too conservative, since the current shared platform for the Mirai is with the Lexus LC/LS(!). Most of the specs for sizing on this car are either between the LC and LS or shared with the LS... this is not a small car!

In the right timing and geographic setting this would have been an alternative for my two-car household (where the other car is a minivan - currently the commuter/short-haul family car is an ES300h). I also suspect that somewhere between the 6-10 year mark this car has literally paid for itself (contrasted with early Toyota hybrids, which were challenged to even pay for the hybrid upgrade fee early on).

Surely some Slickdealer out there shopped for a used FCV?

Good luck!

Energy efficiency is overrated. Ammonia is a cheap and can be cheaply converted to hydrogen. The price can be brought down below $5/kg.

The problem is the cost of the cars since the technology is new and the lack of infrastructure to refill.

This only, only makes sense if you work or live very near, like within a mile, of a hydrogen station. Otherwise I hope you like wasting time driving far to get to refill. For 99.9% of people, an EV will then be much better, no matter the deal. How much is your time worth?

Even if I had a station at home, I'd not get this, though. Hydrogen is pretty carbon intensive at the moment. To be green, an EV over its lifetime is a better choice.

Its already bad enough that there isn't many filling stations and to make matters worse the fuel cell dispenser is jammed or busted half the time. My co-worker spends half his day at work running around to find a functional station and even then the lines are 10 deep.

Good if you can lease to get the carpool sticker and return it after 36 months...its super expensive to own since fuel cells cost like 3x the cost of unleaded.

Turn and burn baby!

That's because once the fuel card runs out then you're stuck with a vehicle that only takes expensive gas. And no one wants that.

I think if you can lease this it's an awesome deal.
This deal is cheaper than leasing plus you own the car at the end. We also don't know what hydrogen will cost in 6 years.

So how does the tax credits work? Do you get the money back while filing tax or if you owed $8000 to IRS then you don't pay up to the credit value of $8000 when filing?
Not well versed with tax credits and I trust our SD community to give honest pointers/answers.
TIA.
For the federal credit, you have to owe at least $8k in federal taxes to get the full benefit.

You can't get the $4500 CA rebate and $8000 federal tax at the same time. To get CA $4500 rebate, you have to be in low income, then you wouldn't pay $8000 federal tax in the first place, you probably paying maybe like $4000 federal tax, then you can only get $4000 federal tax back.

Wait until there's an issue with the H2 supply like what happened a year ago and your nightmare begins. You will be making payment on a car that you cannot use and many of us clarity fuel cell and Mirai owners have gone through that. Good luck and I am staying away from H2 cars entirely due to the poor infrastructure.
