I went to Hamer Toyota and they had balls to mark those up 3k plus 1k gps add-on. Came to $56.5k with no negotiation because stimulus money is here and dealers wants it all. Sad state

Hydrogen Fuel cell is exempt from CA rebate income limits.

"The income cap applies for all eligible vehicle types except fuel-cell electric vehicles."

Please correct me if I'm wrong. For me to receive full tax credits, I need to owe that much of tax, correct? 8K Federal and 4.5K CA?

If my taxes are 5K Federal and 3K CA, is that how much I'll be getting?
Fed, you want to owe before filing your annual tax return. CA is a rebate check you get a few weeks or months after you apply.

Thank you. So, the CVRP rebate limit is for per person? and not per household? We will get the rebate if my wife applies for it with both our names on registration?
I believe this is correct. Please call them to confirm.

Not sure why some people are so adamant about this being a poor deal. The biggest limitation is the amount of H2 fuel stations and that they can go offline or have insufficient supply. That said, you should not be looking at this deal if you do not live near 1 or more H2 fuel stations, if you need to travel long distances outside of the SF to LA corridor, or if you have too much range anxiety. The Mirai is best served for commuters in the local SF and LA markets. If your commute is 30mi each way, you only have to fill up once a week (300mi + other variances). If you don't fit the criteria, don't read any of the below.

Do your own math:

$34000 OTD (including TTL -- some people here have gotten it down to $33000)
- 8000 (federal tax credit)
- 4500 (CA rebate)
---------------------------
$21500
-7500 (15k H2 fuel card is only worth about this much fuel equivalent)
---------------------------
$14000

What comparable new 2021 ICE or hybrid or PHEV can you buy for $14000 ? Even if you buy used, then probably not getting the same tech, same comfort, same safety, same warranty, same maintenance, etc. The Mirai comes with:

3yr/35k warranty
8yr/100k FCEV warranty
10yr/150k hybrid battery warranty
21d of loaner car within 3 yrs for those longer trips
Plus, if you read the FB page, you will see that Toyota in the past has given out complimentary rentals for when the H2 pumps are offline or H2 stations have no H2.

I just bought a 2021 Prius Prime for $17727 after tax and all rebates. Rather drive this than a Mirai.
Would you please share the dealership you got this price from?

What if I have owed and already paid $20k in taxes from my paycheck. When I file my taxes I will get a $8k refund, correct? Or do I need to tell my employer not to take any taxes out so I owe $8k so I can get the credit?

when you file for tax return you will get the 8k back, no need to tell employer to withhold less.

I would check but it's a tax credit so you need to owe at least $8K. So you need to adjust your withholdings. Please check for yourself but this is me understanding.

What is the news here? Car and driver was writing about it a long time ago. 60 mph: 9.1 sec, no thank you

0-60 is a meaningless number. I can tell you from experience that his car is fast enough.

I totally agree with you. This deal is not about the future of FCEV vs BEV. This deal is about if you are willing to spend $14k to drive a $50k car for 6 year, assuming the car is worth $0 after 6 years and live with the limitations of H2 fueling stations.

Too bad that I am semi-retired with enough cash but not making enough for the tax credit, otherwise I would have bought one already.

A few things to keep in mind when considering FCEVs:

1) $15K Hydrogen fuel card is good for 3 years for lease and 6 years for purchase.

2) Hydrogen fuel is currently more expensive than gas and way more than electric. Currently it's around $75-$100 for a full tank for the 400miles range. The idea and hope is that it will be more prevalent and cheaper over time BUT don't hope or buy this car on this wish.

3) The depreciation on the FCEV are the worst of any car you can buy so don't buy this car, or any FCEV, thinking you will recoup any real money if you intend to purchase the Mirai, like I did. Purchase this Lexus luxury caliber and quality car because it is a phenomenal deal for around a $7-$10K (give or take depending on your driving habits) after all the perks over six years. Yes, I think this car would easily last this long as it is a Toyota.

4) Make sure you have at least two+ hydrogen fueling stations conveniently located near your home or place of work. If not AVOID this car like Covid-19!!! Refueling is a huge compromise.

5) Do NOT consider this car unless you have access to a second car. Hydrogen fueling stations aren't ready for prime time, possibly never will be. I would think this applies to pure BEVs as well. I don't know too many people that only have a BEV as it too isn't ready for prime time but definitely will be. You will regret trying to having a only a FCEV, or even possibly BEV, as your only one vehicle. PHEV us the best for a single car scenario but BEV is more doable than FCEV. FCEV, no, just no.

I have friend that states he did the math on new car deprecation at $4K over 3 years. If you keep this Mirai over 6 years, this would mean about at least $8K+. Therefore, if you drive and take full advantage of the $15K fuel card then then $7-$10K cost over 6 years would be about how much a typical car depreciates. Please don't take this as fact but mere information that you would have to calculate and make sure it reflects your situation.

Overall, this 2021 Mirai is an fine piece of technology and luxury if it works for your specific situation.

* Typos and errors included.
The Mirai perfectly fits my needs - I don't plan to drive more than 8,000 miles a year so I expect the fuel card to fully pay for my fuel for all 6 years. If the price of hydrogen goes down, even better but I'm not counting on it.

I also live with four stations within 10 miles in all four directions so I can fill up anytime I go any direction. Hopefully the station on Ventura in Sherman Oaks opens soon since that's only 2 miles away.

Mentally, I think of it as a $15k car when it's all said and done (counting fuel card as worth about $7,500). If the car has any value at the end of 6 years, that will be a bonus.

$15k to go 50,000 miles of 6 years works out to 30 cents a mile (that's even assuming the car is worth nothing at the end). That's very good value.

My boss used to work with a company at, mti, they did small power packs for things like cellphones. Great military applications but far from economical. But sometimes money is no object. As the tech advances in general, it will open up many consumer level avenues. Unfortunately and fortunately, Elon is dominating the ev scene. Fuel cells typical need a small battery buffer anyway. Hopefully Elon deals with the rare earth mining and refines the battery tech otherwise we're starting wars in other countries all over again over raw materials.
Due to hydrogen's energy density, fuel cells are ideal for drones.

Hmm...Did you forget about the long lines for Tesla Superchargers during the 2019 holiday travels? Perhaps there are more Superchargers now. Or, what would you have done had you travel through Texas in Feb of this year? Or, when PG&E turns off the power during the fire season?
Great whataboutism. Tesla superchargers as well as other chargers are increasing. Hydrogen stations are stagnant. It's not as if there have never been gasoline shortages in this country. If I was driving through Texas I'd probably catch a flight to Cancun. Or PG&E power outages, which during the last few seasons my power was out for a couple of hours. But I also have a tri-fuel 7kw generator & a 10kw solar system. So I can power my cars from the grid, sun, gasoline, NG, or propane. Try driving a Mirai in Texas...

H2 is very prone to leaking. So assuming power is lost at those stations I wonder how much he u would lose.

Flying to Cancun with Ted Cruz? That's not the point. You could have been without a charge. Yes, very unlikely with an EV, but still does not exclude you from the original argument that it better off not to depend solely on an EV. Good point on solar and generator.

Not sure how much is leaked from the car but each of the three FCEVs on the market are able to deliver their quoted ranges (per online YT reviews). In Year 2 or Year 3, who knows?
