I've had the blue one for about a month or so and I like it very much. The track pad is garbage, otherwise I don't have much to complain about. Oh, the power button is where "delete" goes so expect to punk yourself a few times.

I like the feel of it, the metal feeling lid helps it not feel super cheap.

I use it for prepping 3d models for my printer, and it's very good at what I ask it to do.

BTW it does charge via USB c despite it saying data only.

Any suggestions on a 15.6" laptop with built-in optical drive?
Really hard to find one of these nowadays.
Have a library of 100s of DVDs that I still like the convenience of just sliding in and watching on laptop.
LaptopMag recommends [laptopmag.com] the Acer Aspire E 15 if you want a DVD drive. (I disagree with the characterization of "Lots of ports" however. My Latitude E6410 on the other hand has PC Card, ExpressCard, and Firewire, among others, and still runs Win 10 fine, which makes it great if you're IT.)

What you do is get a job with Walmart and get the 10% employee discount. At $314.00 it's a steal.

I would look to ripping those DVDs to a USB stick.
Grab a 512GB Flash for about $50-$75 bucks and you can put all your movies there.

Generally, DVD rips do not involve breaking encryption, which is an issue with Blue-Ray.
Thus legality issues are normally avoided so long as you actually own the DVD.
(No - I'm not a lawyer so just a laymans view...)

Sorry but I don't have a way to test this, or I would.

You are wrong about all DVDs not containing anti-copy features. Even with an optical drive, you will see that some DVDs have a disclaimer that they won't play on a computer drive. DVD players have greater margins for error, they are designed to play all DVDs and made-on-demand DVDRs. I am getting this Gateway laptop to replace an Acer whose optical drive brove and which now has sound problems. An optical drive is one more part that can break.

What's s your question? If it charges via USB c? Because it does.

Actually lemme edit this and say it shows as charging when you plug it into USB c power supply. I've never actually bothered since I'm using the oem adapter, but I doubt it would show as charging and not actually charge? I just did it to test its response.

If I am not mistaken I believe this model doesn't have the metal lid though. The metal lid models are the ones that feature the pink colour, the ones with the purple colour are all fully plastic. Everything else should be the same though.

Thank you OP. Tried to give you reps but was rejected for some reason. Does anyone know if it has an Ethernet post.
Also I tried searching for Manufacturer website to see the specs/manual but wasn't able to find it. If anyone has a link would love to see it.

TIA

You're assuming another device with a functional DVD drive. S/he can't rip a DVD to a USB stick if the laptop has no DVD drive.

Plus, ripping is a time-consuming process. 100's of DVDs could easily turn into weeks of ripping.
